Great film. But the science was really wrong.
Read the book. Never saw the movie.. will have to look it up tonight.
Nonsense. A nuclear war would involve the entire world and every human being on Earth would perish.
Kinetic weapons sent down from orbit would in many ways be more powerful than nukes.
Roughly 20-30 kilos would be plenty, 35,000mph+, extreme accuracy, small, stealthy... comes out of nowhere and suddenly all the leadership is gone.
The way to win a nuclear war is to avoid it.
The way to avoid it is to make it known to the leadership of the wayward nation/s that they will not by any chance survive the conflict.
Pretty much all survival bunkers of any size are well known to the IC. No current bunker can withstand a direct hit and there is not time to stealthily construct adequate ones. Many such secret bunker locations have likely been gleaned from cellphone records of contractors involved in the types of work necessary to such undertakings... that is where I would look for the info... especially the phone records of the immediate family members of such contractors, if the contractor’s phone suddenly is silent then what is going on with the other phones in the family... often when someone is asked NOT to carry their usual phone for security reasons they carry the phone of a family member, dead giveaway.
The really important issue iswhether the U.S. could stand up to a “conventional” war with China...
That is a real possibility...
Just think of all the defense and industrial products we require that would have to be ordered from Mexico, China, or India...
The industrial might, facilities, and citizen mentality required to win a conventional war with the Chicoms do not currently exist...
IMHO...
