Maybe this ridiculous trillion dollar sell off over paltry $100B tariff is over.

The DOW is not up. It’s the dollar that is down, making the market appear to be up.

Big fat tariffs strengthen the dollar over the long term.

Markets in the broad conceptual sense may be rational, but the stock market most certainly is not. It is frequently driven by baseless emotion, herd mentality, and just plain ignorance. Just watch on any given day how exactly the same economic news can cause the market to both go up AND down.
If markets were truly rational it would be easy to predict their direction, yet no one can reliably do that. The stock market is little more than a casino.

The NYSE market represents INTERNATIONAL interest$ which are often opposed to the interests of the working class of the USA.

Strong dollar not our friend.
To: C210N
That’s weird, I’m looking at the chart right now, and it says that it is up... 469.49 at the moment... and never once in history have I seen a large change in the Dow, either up or down, get explained away as a function of the dollar going up or down that day... and yet here you are. Hmm.

Strong dollar not our friend.Only if you like inflation.

If you like squaring the trade imbalance, you should want a somewhat weaker dollar—as the Trump administration has stated it wants.

“The DOW is not up. It’s the dollar that is down, making the market appear to be up.”
########################
The dollar is at equilibrium. A more expensive dollar means other countries won’t buy as much of our goods, including our financial ones (stocks and bonds), or invest in our country (real estate, factories). A less expensive dollar means they will. It goes both ways. A less expensive dollar is not necessarily a bad thing, and a more expensive dollar is not necessarily a good thing.

That was a new one for me as well.

Unfortunately, the markets having a great day today, and then Trump tries to take the steam away by announcing more tariffs. Hopefully it still closes up for the day.

Trump tries to take the steam away by announcing more tariffs. Tariffs are great for the USA. The global international interest$ repesented by the DOW etc. should not be the metric of sound US economic policy.
