And if I remember correctly the project that spurred the Kelo decision fell through and the property ended up abandoned.

Kelo needs to be overturned. It misinterpreted "public use" as the generation of tax revenue. Handing property to another "owner" because they will generate more tax revenue is not "public use".

I will celebrate. I remember the day that decision came down and it sickened me.
Not as bad as Roe, but it was very very bad.
If Roe was a grade F, Kelo is a D.

Yep. It's even worse than that: instead of missing out on the supposed tax revenue, they've finally decided to build some sort of zillion dollar 'community center' on the site, which will of course be a net financial drain on an ongoing basis. So they went from allegedly gaining revenue to actively spending money indefinitely.
Kelo is a stain on American jurisprudence. It deserves to be tossed unceremoniously in the trash; I think there's a spot for it next to Chevron...

Kelo needs to be overturned. It misinterpreted "public use" as the generation of tax revenue. Handing property to another "owner" because they will generate more tax revenue is not "public use". Even if tax generation were public use the Kelo property proved you cannot guarantee a new owner is going to return more taxes. Essentially Kelo says it’s ok to take someone’s property to gamble on increased tax returns which makes the whole thing even more disgusting.

Kelo never should’ve happened. End it!

I’m good with the government taking someone’s property to build a needed bridge or road, but not to take land and give it to someone else because they can pay more taxes than the current owner.

Kelo needs to be overturned. It misinterpreted "public use" as the generation of tax revenue. Here is another take on that.
Kelo respected the Constitution as written, which did not make the governance of local public takings a Federal power. That allowed States the latitude to institute more stringent protections of private property rights, which some did.

I tend to agree with that.

At this point, we should never underestimate Chief Justice Roberts’ ability to Biden things up.

And you would be correct. The houses were torn down and the property sat there for many years empty.

Wasn’t Roberts Chief Justice on the court in 2005?

I had almost forgotten about this. Prior to a Supreme Court reversal of this, I have a couple of recommendations for President Trump. It involves properties in Delaware, Massachusetts, Hawaii, and a couple of other places.

The “civil forfeiture” has to be the most abused power that the SC ever gave LEOs. All they have to do is SUSPECT that your house, car, money, bank account, jewelry or any other property is affiliated with drugs and they can legally take it away from you an you have to prove it wasn’t to get it back, which will cost your thousands.
