A new Canadian PM

On Friday, Mark Carney was sworn in as His Majesty’s 24th Prime Minister of Canada. He replaces nepo baby Justin Trudeau, who had served in the office for the past decade.

I must confess that I am completely baffled by Westminster-style parliamentary democracy. As I understand it, Carney is not a member of the Canadian Parliament, has never been a member of parliament, nor has he ever held elected office.

By profession, Carney is a central banker, having been head of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. As a young man, I had a brief career in central banking (entry level, not CEO level). Still, I would not consider that background as necessarily good preparation for holding national political office.

Carney has also worked, at various times, for the United Nations and for Goldman Sachs, serving in their Boston, New York, London, Tokyo, and Toronto offices.

Although born in Canada, he holds degrees from Harvard and Oxford. Reportedly, he also currently holds Canadian, British and Irish citizenship. It’s not clear to what extent he’s actually Canadian.

In his first act as Prime Minister, Carney by decree got rid of the national carbon tax. I say by decree because Parliament is not currently sitting, having been suspended by Trudeau early in January near the start of the crisis that led to his eventual ouster. It will not resume sitting until Monday, March 24.

Carney also serves as the head of Canada’s ruling Liberal party. Between now and October, Carney is obligated to call a general election. So, his term as PM may end up being short-lived.

Last fall, as Trudeau appeared to be on his way out, the Conservative party appeared to be a lock to win the next election and a governing majority. With the passage of time, and Carney’s apparent move to the middle, that outcome is less certain.

There is an ancient joke media headline that reads, “Worthwhile Canadian Initiative.” But I would argue all of this is worth paying attention to for the next year. America appears to be engaged in protracted trade war with our neighbors to the north.

This manifested itself the other day when the putatively Conservative Premier of the Ontario province generated headlines by threatening to cut off the trickle of electricity that flows across his international border with the U.S.

Look out above!

Carney will make the next election about Trump. It may work.

The US only needs to take over the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and perhaps Newfoundland and Labrador.

The rest of Canaduh can suck on the fascism of that [not]Freeland woman.

The Canadians are being played by the globalist/marxists and don’t realize it.

It seems by the article that he is ideal for the PMship of Canada. He has been with all of those communist outfits for years plus his degrees are with the Ivy League, communist, American. Northeast universities. It is sadly true. The communists of the world, including the ones in U.S.A., love him.

What is not to love about him? (</s>)

From what I understand, BC is conservative. Not so?

He was good as a finance minister under Mulroney, but he seems to have sold his soul since then.

We need BC for our land bridge to Alaska and Alberta for oil and gas.

Meanwhile Amir Ali - the federal judge who rules that Trump must disburse $2M in spending for USAID - holds Canadian citizenship. This GOP-controlled Congress must pass a law mandating that all members of the federal judiciary hold only US citizenship.

The USA does not require the Speaker of the House to be a House member, but the Speaker has always been a member.

Brian Mulroney was a member, no?
I think John Turner was too.

I live in the American South so I don’t watch Canadian TV any longer.

I recall watching the Liberal Party Convention when Turner was nominated. In the USA the party caucus votes (House members only) for the party’s Speaker candidate.

In Canada, there were delegates to the convention. Obviously most delegates were not members of Parliament.
Turner was not nominated until the 2nd ballot.

They're not very smart. Their economy will continue to tank. Their NHL teams will end up moving to America.

I wonder if the process is the same if the Prime Minister resigns unexpectedly. Do they hold a convention like they did for Turner, or do they do something else?

Sargent Shriver was approved by the Democrat National Committee, not the Convention.

I could also see restricting the vote to party members of Parliament.

I think BC is LOST, but would be OK with an Alberta for New England [Vt., N./H., Me., Mass., R.I., Conn.] swap.

I am not sure if he can suddenly cancel the ‘carbon tax’ with a signature. I believe such a change has to go before the House of Commons. Not sure on that, however.

What I do know is, his handlers had him copy PDJT’s signing of EOs, even including a gavel, something that has NOTHING TO DO with changing the law in Canaduh. All for show.

You will note, that Marx Carney (or ‘Carnage’, as some Brits call him) has no plans to visit PDJT, instead, his first ‘official’ (still unelected) visit is to Paris and London. Not surprising, as he has identified himself as a ‘European’, at a WEF conflict in Davos, a few years ago so, of course he would head to Europeto visit his fellow WEFers, to plot how to deal with the ‘bad orange man’.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vrkv_TMGwPg&pp=ygUWIkV1cm9wZWFuIiBNYXJrIENhcm5leQ%3D%3D

Make no mistake, the WEFer/ChiComs know their ‘goos is cooked’ if PDJT gets his continental economic and defence plans working. China is then locked out of the Arctic and there is no waybfor the Russian Navy and PLAN to link up in the Arctic, nor through the Panama Canal. Canaduh is the WEF/ChiComs will sacrifice Canaduh, to try to destroy PDJT, and most Canadians are BLIND to what is going on!

Really, dude? The US needs AB and SK oil and NG. These two Provinces are the most PRO-AMERICAN in the country.

What the US DOESN’T need, is leftist ON, BC Lower Mainland, and Quebec.

Except, Canaduh is a narco-state directed by the WEF/ChiCom. The US DOESN’T NEED a ChiCom puppet state on its Northern border!

Carney will make the next election about Trump. It may work.”

It might. He is running on standing strong against mean Mr. Trump while rushes to the center. He is even promising to get rid of the hated carbon tax which he helped push through in the first place.

Most everything outside the ‘Lower Mainland’ (metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island) is mostly conservative.
