Waffle House is passing along the sky high cost of eggs to diners with a 50 cent surcharge

The Waffle House restaurant chain is putting a 50 cent per egg surcharge in place due to the biggest bird flu outbreak in a decade.

The 24-7 restaurant said that the resulting egg shortage has led to a dramatic increase in its costs.

Bird flu is forcing farmers to slaughter millions of chickens a month, pushing U.S. egg prices to more than double their cost in the summer of 2023. And it appears there may be no relief in sight with Easter approaching.

The average price per dozen eggs nationwide hit $4.15 in December. That’s not quite as high as the $4.82 record set two years ago, but the Agriculture Department predicts egg prices are going to soar another 20% this year.

The Waffle House, a reliable source of a cheap breakfast, said that its egg surcharge became effective this week and that it applies to all of its menus. The restaurant’s two-egg breakfast, which comes with toast and a side, was listed at $7.75 on Tuesday.

Stop eating eggs as a separate item. Just use them in recipes that make multiple servings. It won’t be long until chicks grow into hens and start laying eggs

I bought 18 baby blue heritage eggs at Costco a couple days ago for $7.50 or $8.

I’m glad I live in egg country.

There were times when I did a surcharge on gasoline in California, I would tack on an extra $3 or so during a period when their gas prices were exploding.

Been strongly contemplating getting some quail. Can be kept indoors as I understand. 3 eggs equal 1 chicken egg.

These new WH’s have NO FRYERS, so the full menu is not available like the older stores. We stopped once after a Dr. visit, Expensive and poor service. Order Pancakes then they use a complete mix, just add water.

You can go to Trader Joes and buy a dozen eggs for 2.99 heck Costco has PLENTY of eggs available..Trump should promise every American 2 laying hens and this would not be an issue. My nephew’s friend they have hens in their backyard they make their own organic fresh eggs every morning, they are delicious

It’s $10+ at wafffle house for anything other than a basic two egg/toast breakfast. Breakfast places have not been cheap for quite some time.

Herbert Hoover promised Americans a chicken in every pot. It did not work out well for him.

I buy Trader Joe’s pasture-raised eggs for the bargain price of $4.95. $2 less than NaturalGrocer and half as much as Safeway.

Far healthier eggs with more Omega 3s. Well worth the price and they taste better too. Omega-3 fatty acids are “healthy fats” that may support your heart health. One key benefit is helping to lower your triglycerides.
