Doug Burgum's confirmation hearing postponed from Tuesday to Thursday amid paperwork delays

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee pushed the confirmation hearing scheduled for Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum from Tuesday to Thursday because the chamber has yet to receive required ethics paperwork.

Sen. Mike Lee, the panel’s chairman, said Mr. Burgum promptly submitted his paperwork to the Office of Government Ethics, which has yet to complete its review.

“This bureaucratic delay is unacceptable,” the Utah Republican said. “To ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of this process, the committee will postpone Governor Burgum’s hearing until Thursday. However, we expect OGE to act with urgency and complete its review without further unnecessary delays.”

Mr. Lee’s announcement came shortly after Energy and Natural Resources ranking member Martin Heinrich of New Mexico led panel Democrats in a letter calling on the chairman to postpone the hearing “for at least a week” so the Senate could receive and review the required documents.

“The committee still has not received the standard financial disclosure report, ethics agreement or the opinions from the designated agency ethics officer and the Office of Government Ethics stating that the nominee is in compliance with the ethics laws,” the Democrats wrote.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, said in floor remarks Monday that getting the background documents “is not trivial, busy work.”

“If these nominees have something to hide, these documents could show it,” he said. “So it’s important we don’t rush to hearings without examining the record first.”

No delay, Sen. Lee! Don’t allow the Deep State ‘RATS to slow roll Trump’s nominees this time. Publicly shame, and if possible, remove the miscreants from their positions. All Congressional ‘Pubs go to Walmart tonight and buy a spine!

The Office of Government Ethics is a department within the Executive Branch of the federal government. The director of the office is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate for a 5 year term. The current Director, David Huitema was appointed by Joe Biden for a 5 year term beginning December 16, 2024. This means Biden’s chosen director will serve throughout Donald Trump entire term of office.

It is David Huitema’s job to ensure the review process of new cabinet picks is performed promptly, accurately, and efficiently. Could Huitema be a land mine last minute appointment by Biden who will gum up the works for the next four years? Huitema was confirmed by the Senate by a 50 -44 vote, suggesting even RINO senators did not support him.

“Can he be removed by vote?”

Trump cannot fire him. He can resign from office of his own volition. Or, Congress can impeach him for “high crimes and misdemeanors” followed by a Senate trial and vote to remove which is highly unlikely.

Unless Congress changes the term of office, or gives the president firing power over the position, Trump is stuck with this department head.

This is the playbook for the Dems: slow roll all of it.

Who do you think the OGE lawyers voted for?

We better have a counter and move on it right now.

Want to bet that the FBI is slowing down background checks? The GOP should just figure out a way to do recess appointments. That’s what the Democrats would do.

These effers are so damn clever! What other minefields did they plant along the way? Don’t expect quick confirmation if Trump has to depend on a FJB appointee to get the process rolling. And to think this POS has five freaking long years to obstruct any of Trump’s candidates. They are going to drag this out as long as they can. Schumer and the rest of the evil cabal already know exactly what tripwires they have planted to stifle trump’s momentum. My God it’s gonna be the same shit for four long years. These asses think of nothing but destruction and evil continually.

Yep! They are signaling to Trump you’re not gonna get your cabinet approved immediately. They are going to slow walk everything they can possibly think of. The Republicans better come up with a damn good plan or we are screwed as a nation who overwhelmingly voted for this man to get things done. The Republicans at the hill better get their asses on high gear! They better not play the ignorant and stupid game that plagues our party year after year! Remember when they promised us that dementia Joe was going to be impeached and the rest of his criminal administration who were lying through their teeth at the hearings held? That folks is the ignorant and stupid party!

This is not the nomination that matters.

Frankly, only Tulsi Gabbard matters. She will sterilize intelligence briefings.

Everyone else are largely administrative positions.

And guess what, they are slow walking her.
