San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie will have to tackle the city’s nearly $1 billion budget deficit when he takes office on January 8, and he may be forced to cut staff and services to overcome a shortfall of the city’s own creation.
San Francisco imposed draconian lockdown policies during the coronavirus pandemic, while also adopting lax policing policies that allowed crime and homelessness to skyrocket. Many of the city’s residents — including tech employees, now able to work from home — moved elsewhere.
As a result, San Francisco has recovered from the pandemic more slowly than any other major city in the U.S.

Pretty typical when Democrats are in charge.
“Trump To City - Drop Dead!”
I don’t know their pronouns or preferred sexual identity de jour. I’m so confused.
He can raise taxes again. SF has lots of evil corporations to exploit, that have endless profits to tax.
But don’t worry, he says being a sanctuary city is critical and he intends to protect illegals and LGBTQ types from the Trump administration
The pandemic cash has been spent by state and local communities. The real problem is that to they need to find money to replace the ARPPA funding it eliminate the programs they spent it on. That is the crux of the problem.
You’d have to cut 10,000 employees (each making 100k) to balance that budget
Every state should be able to buy a part of California it couldn’t be any worse even the feds could stop supporting it.
Same in most big urban areas. The city is seen as a minority employment service and not a means of serving taxpayers.
Like with the funds for the BulletTrain and the homeless programs, not a dime went to solving anything. All a big bag of dosh to skim by politicos.
No money before an audit. F@#$% ‘em.
Oh, and I live right next door. F!@#$% ‘em.
Except this time the city is really already dead as a city, even if the municipal government lingers on.
No fire from Heaven moment like Sodom necessary if they destroy themselves anyway.
Trump should drop all federal assistance to the Sewer by the Bay.
Let them be sanctuaries on their dime.
If Harris had won, a key job would have been to use some phony economic pretext and “stimulus” to bail out these deep-blue political strongholds.
His background from Wikipedia...
“Lurie was born and raised in a Jewish[3] family in San Francisco, the son of Mimi (née Ruchwarger) and Rabbi Brian Lurie.[4][5] His parents divorced when he was two[5] and his mother remarried to Peter E. Haas.[4] He is an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune as Peter Haas is the great-grandnephew of Levi Strauss.[6] Lurie says he grew up “most of the time in [Haas’s] house.”[3]
His father was executive director of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco.[7] He has two brothers, Ari Lurie[2] and Alexander Lurie, and one sister, Sonia Lurie. He attended the Town School for Boys and University High School in San Francisco.[4] He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Duke University.[4][5]
Career
In 2001, Lurie moved to New York City to work for the Robin Hood Foundation, founded by Paul Tudor Jones.[4][3] In 2003, he returned to San Francisco where he received his Master of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at University of California, Berkeley in 2005;[4][8] his thesis consisted of a business plan for a charitable foundation based on the Robin Hood model.[4] After he graduated, he founded the Tipping Point Community, which has raised over $500 million from private donors.[9] Other founding members of the board were Ronnie Lott, Katie Schwab Paige (daughter of Charles R. Schwab), and Chris James (founder of Engine No. 1).[4] Tipping Point focuses on education, housing, employment, and family wellness.[4]
Lurie was named by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to lead the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Bid Committee; after a successful bid, he was able to ensure that 25% of revenue was designated to local non-profits to help fight poverty.[4]
In 2018, Lurie committed to raising $100 million in two years to reduce chronic homelessness in San Francisco by 50%.[10] Tipping Point’s Chronic Homelessness Initiative (CHI) was a catalyst for bringing city government and nonprofit service providers together to work in new ways, spurred innovation and legitimized promising new solutions before tax dollars were spent.[11]
On November 16, 2019, Lurie stepped down as CEO of Tipping Point Community after 15 years of leading the organization. Lurie was to remain with Tipping Point as chair of the board.”
‘Tipping Point’ hahahah - how ironic
Can’t Nancy have a ritzy fundraiser? Raising a billion should be no problem after Harris.
Or make it worse.
I’m in S.F., and honestly there’s nowhere to go but up. Lurie wasn’t my first choice for mayor, but he can’t help but be an improvement over London Breed. Imagine Kamala Harris, only dumber, fatter and from a lower-class family. That’s London Breed. And putting someone of her ilk in charge is how you end up a billion dollars in the hole.
I see what you did there.
