Trump Team Signs Agreement to Allow F.B.I. Background Checks for Nominees
The New York Times ^ | December 3, 2024 | Maggie Haberman, Charlie Savage, and Jonathan Swan

Posted on 12/04/2024 4:54:18 AM PST by Timber Rattler

President-elect Donald J. Trump’s transition operation announced on Tuesday that it had belatedly signed an agreement with the Justice Department that will allow the F.B.I. to conduct background checks on people Mr. Trump intends to appoint as senior officials in his new administration.

F.B.I. background checks have long been a routine part of transitions. Law-enforcement vetting of a president-elect’s senior team is normally part of decisions about whether they can be entrusted with access to national security secrets, and senators traditionally want to see such dossiers during the confirmation process.

But Mr. Trump, who is hostile to the F.B.I. because of its role in various criminal and counterintelligence investigations into him, had let weeks pass without signing the agreement.

His team considered bypassing the F.B.I. and instead using private investigators. Under that plan, Mr. Trump would grant security clearances to his picks after his inauguration, and the Senate would not have access to the usual vetting materials.

Despite the signing of the agreement, it remains unclear whether Mr. Trump’s team plans to send the names of all officials requiring a security clearance or Senate confirmation to the F.B.I. for vetting. The announcement did not say whether Mr. Trump would require his appointees to undergo the process or was simply allowing the F.B.I. to begin looking at those who are willing to submit to its scrutiny.

I think there is a bunch of behind the scenes negotiating with the Senate going on.

He’s not gone wobbly… he let the Kash Patel nomination sink in.

If they mess with him on Patel’s watch, it’s at their peril.

I keep having nightmares of wheels coming off this whole thing and I began having them when I heard the names Pam Bondi and Marco Rubio. I also thought the “Presidential Transition” was going to be handled entirely “outside” of the ambit of the federal government. And that process was going to be funded by big-dollar Trump contributors. Signing this kind of agreement seems like it would be a refutation of that plan.

It’s not him going wobbly but as I understand it, the RINOs in the Senate are insisting on it and, unfortunately, they still hold power to do so.

I think that’s it. Kash Patel is tremendously important. At this point, any FBI agents who mess with Trump are just cutting their own throats.

FBI leadership sucks - but many at the bottom are competent.

It's important to remember newspapers hate Trump and are incapable of honest reporting.

While you're at it ask yourself why none of the press bimbos from the NYT's or Washington Post have bothered to follow one of the "lost" illegal children from 'place found' to the 'mother' on the piece of paper. The "poor mother" who put out $8,000 to have her two year old transported by criminal cartels... Does that make sense to anyone with an IQ over 75? Or a member of the press?

Hey press bimbos - the kid is being sold to perverts. Often a hundred kids go to the same 'aunt' at the same address... Stop being stupid. And while you're at it ask why YOUR editors don't give a damn about these children UNLESS they can be used against Trump?

I’m not too worried about this. They missed the bald headed, luggage stealing tranny and the corrupt, nepotism baby on Ukraine energy boards in the last administration.

I think our guys are safe.

“Signing this kind of agreement seems like it would be a refutation of that plan.”

Both Collins and Murkowski have stated they would not vote to confirm ANY of Trump’s nominees that did not undergo an FBI background check.

Petty games are always afoot.

Refusing to do the FBI background checks gave too much political cover to GOP senators who are opposed to Trump’s cabinet picks but don’t want to say it openly.

“I won’t confirm X because he/she hasn’t been subject to a background check” is a politically safe approach … as opposed to: “I won’t confirm X because Trump wants to undermine the companies and government offices that bankroll my campaigns and hire my family members.”

Trump won't go wobbly with the FBI. He's about to carve them up like a holiday turkey.

Being a builder in NYC, Trump grew up having to deal with the organized crime. The mafia is one hell of a lot smarter and meaner than the FBI.

These are the raw reports that are virtually worthless. Your neighbors wife likes you more than her husband so she trashes you to hide that when they do the interview. You other neighbor trashes you because he doesn’t like you. Loose loose.
