Yes, you read it right, just $1.58 million.
Let's dig deeper.
The film was playing in 1,740 cinemas, which means the average earning per theatre is roughly $927.
The average movie ticket price in the U.S. is roughly 10 dollars. In blue cities, the average is closer to $20.
But for the sake of argument, let's take the $10 figure. That means every cinema had under only nine to 10 humans in the audience, i.e., the percentage of occupancy was in single digits.
Only 158 thousand people watched the film over the weekend.
Perhaps the audience of the film comprised exclusively of the cast and crew members and their families.
The film is an unmitigated disaster.
Hollywood hasn’t gotten the message yet - nobody gives a damn about their political bullsh*t anymore. Sell your crap to someone else. If you are in business and want to make money, start making good movies again. And stop relying on Comic Books for your writers.
Never even heard of this thing... at all.
I don’t care how good or bad a film is, did this thing have any marketing at all?? Ever? If you don’t market a film, any film, other than a rare exception, it will bomb.
Fools and their money are soon parted.
Meanwhile, Matt Walsh’s “Am I a Racist” is wrapping up its theater run. This past weekend it cross $12M in ticket sales against $3 M in production costs. So there’s a market out their for sanity; not so much for the converse
Why would Trump-hating liberals go see a movie about Trump? Why would Trump-loving conservatives go see a movie that trashes Trump? DUH
IMDB gives it a pretty good rating of 6.9 based on viewer ratings, but they lie about that stuff all the time. They say it grossed just $1.6 million on its opening weekend and that is lousy.
Hit jobs intended to get liberals into the theater always flop. Liberals are NOT going to open their wallets and spend their money to go see propaganda.
On the other hand, well made conservative and Christian movies always seem to “surprise” at the box office with great returns. See Dennis Quaid’s “Reagan” for example.
