Electric vehicle fires have brought new challenges to fire crews, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nolan Hale said. Hale said they have to balance first responder and community safety with properly extinguishing the fire and monitoring the environmental impact of the blaze.

“When the electric vehicles start a thermal runaway process within the battery cells, it takes a very significant amount of water to start that cooling effect,” Hale said. “It’s very hard for us to access those.”

I hadn’t thought of that, the cost of training every fire crew across the country about how to deal with these battery fires? Is that even considered in the costs of mandating electric vehicles?

I seem to have more questions than answers today.
