In my county, every four or five years there is some big headline in our once-weekly paper that broadband internet is going to be soon widely available and it will be funded by the federal government. A couple of years later all the money has been spent on "studies" and no one has any better internet than they had before.
I get internet through our phone service, Windstream/Kinetic. The service sucks. But, it is better than what a construction company about a mile from me has. He is on the same service but his connection is so bad he can't even use email.
The government agencies are good at making promises but dismal on actually delivery. And Kamala wants to put government in charge of setting prices for goods and services if she feels a company is "price gouging" (or gauging--whichever you prefer). Yeah, right.
“For the left, it is not the actual product that counts. It’s the intention and the spending of great sums of money.”
That’s what I came on this thread to say. Completely agree.
The article clearly demonstrates the ineptitude of government. Some people would take it further and suggest that it’s more than ineptitude and involves graft and corruption.
While government dithers away with this promise, Elon Musk puts together a highly efficient high speed satellite system in place that reaches every rural area government has failed.
Government is the problem.
This is interesting. We have a place in the woods in Northern Michigan that is being wired for fiber optic Internet.
I wondered if this was part of the project, but apparently not...
Amazing that they are running fiber out in the woods that far out.
Amazing how democrats can make billions disappear Harries with
Broadband scam and Biden with only 8 EV charge stations going to be big Chrictmas.

“… climate change mandates, union worker requirements, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies—which have halted progress on expanding rural Internet access. ISPs point to attempts by the Biden-Harris Commerce Department to regulate consumer rates in a manner beyond the agency’s authority as compounding the program’s ineffectiveness.”
FedGov is the most corrupt, most ineffectual, most Byzantine, most useless, greediest, most insatiable thing ever created by man.
I suspect that Musk and Starlink could do the job for a whole lot less than 42 billion.
