CNN panel gets chaotic after Mace repeatedly mispronounces Harris’s name

A Thursday evening CNN panel devolved into a heated argument after Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) repeatedly mispronounced Vice President Kamala Harris’s name.

Mace mispronounced Harris’s first name a few times during the interview, with various other guests correcting her.

But things became more heated as the discussion went on.

After author and professor Michael Eric Dyson said former President Trump was playing reruns with his campaign statements. Mace quickly clapped back.

“Talk about reruns, Kamala’s—Kamala’s,” Mace began, saying the vice president’s name correctly the first time but mispronouncing it the second time.

Mace was interrupted by former Clinton White House aide Keith Boykin, who said, “You had it right! You almost got it!”

Did the media get all bent out of shape when people mispronounced (and still do) Ron DeSantis’s name? He started pronouncing it DEE-Santis for a while then went back to using DUH-Santis when the whole thing became a distracting controversy. People prefer DUH-Santis. It’s easier to say. DeSantis didn’t make a federal case out of it and went with the flow.

But Kamala is special. She has an uncommon name that most Americans unintentionally mis-pronounce. If you show 10 people who’ve never seen or heard the name “Kamala”, and ask them to pronounce it, I guarantee 9 out of 10 will say Ka-MAL-a. It has nothing to do with disrespect and everything to do with pronouncing an unfamiliar name in the way that seems most natural for English speaking Americans. But Kamala is special. Instead of going with the flow, she or he surrogates have to lecture the voters about the proper pronunciation of a name that is unfamiliar to most of them. That’s emblematic of the left’s attitude. It’s up to the people to change their habits to please their rulers, not the other way around.

Her parents had nothing to do with people like you pronouncing an easy name as chlamydia.

It’s on you alone.

It’s not unfamiliar at this point.

The pronunciation is unfamiliar. The most well known Kamala in America, prior to Harris, was a wrestler named Kamala. His name was pronounced Ka-MAL-a. Few Americans ever dealt with the name until Harris came on the scene four years ago. The media tried to make a big issue out of it four years ago, but she wasn’t important enough for people to change their pronunciation to the more awkward KA-mal-a.

In the past 4 years, many in the media have continued to pronounce it Ka-MAL-a, so the average person is as likely to unintentionally mis-pronounce her name as they are to pronounce it correctly because it’s what they’ve heard.

Shorten it to See You Next Tuesday.

Or, “Willie Brown’s Whore” works too.

Unintentionally is fine, correct it and move on.

What we’re seeing here is intentional and childish.

I disagree. She needs to put her big girl pants on and focus on what matters rather than on how people pronounce her name. People still pronounce DeSantis, DUH-Santis. He learned to deal with it. So can she.

I haven’t seen her complain about it, could have missed it.

But so much of it is intentional and childish.

Entire threads dedicated to doing it here.

Wish people could grow up.

And BTW, many of us have ethnic names that we’ve Anglicized. I have an Italian last name. I go by the pronunciation that is easiest for Americans to pronounce, not the proper Italian pronunciation. People do that all the time. Kamala can certainly make a similar concession.

My liberal friend took me to task for not pronouncing Her Veepness’ name “correctly”. I called her KA-MA-LA. My friend said “It is pronounced COMMA-LA”. Potato — Po-tah-to. Who cares?? Libs get their panties in a wad over the most miniscule things!

.......I’m thankful for ladies like Nancy Mace, Marjorie Green, Lauren Boebert, Harriet Hageman and many others that can stomach, without throwing up, sitting at the same table and debating ANYTHING with low IQ “democrats”.......

We need more ladies like these in order to survive this current existential maelstrom America is in.

Hang in there Nancy and Thank God for Mute! I listen to you but MUTE the democrats. They have absolutely nothing to say that I want to hear.

When Joe learns how to pronounce Laken Riley’s name correctly, then I’ll worry about pronouncing Kamala’s.

They chose an odd name for America and people respond to odd names and even ordinary names with puns in particular in politics. There is nothinh sacrosanct about her or her name.
O.K.?

Never claimed it was sacrosanct.

Said purposely mispronouncing someone’s name is sophomoric and lazy.
