How the Biden-Harris Economy Left Most Americans Behind
WSJ ^ | 8/16/2024 | WSJ editorial

Posted on 08/16/2024 6:24:52 AM PDT by RicocheT

President Biden claims that he inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression, but this isn’t close to true. The economy in January 2021 was fast recovering from the pandemic as vaccines rolled out and state lockdowns eased. GDP grew 34.8% in the third quarter of 2020, 4.2% in the fourth, and 5.2% in the first quarter of 2021. By the end of that first quarter, real GDP had returned to its pre-pandemic high. All Mr. Biden had to do was let the recovery unfold.

Instead, Democrats in March 2021 used Covid relief as a pretext to pass $1.9 trillion in new spending. This was more than double Barack Obama’s 2009 spending bonanza. State and local governments were the biggest beneficiaries, receiving $350 billion in direct aid, $122 billion for K-12 schools and $30 billion for mass transit. Insolvent union pension funds received a $86 billion rescue.

The rest was mostly transfer payments to individuals, including a five-month extension of enhanced unemployment benefits, a $3,600 fully refundable child tax credit, $1,400 stimulus payments per person, sweetened Affordable Care Act subsidies, an increased earned income tax credit including for folks who didn’t work, housing subsidies and so much more.

Biden/Harris triggered inflation. Harris thinks price controls will work. It won't as price controls didn't stop inflation back when Jimmy Carter was prisident

Turning everything into an argument about economics for decades gained us nothing on the subject of economics, despite being clearly right. It’s great that the “conservative movement” fully embraced economics in order to defeat international communism, but it is really something that we are still arguing about what causes inflation. Wow.

Price controls may force a certain price, but they don’t force producers to continue to produce.

Factories and farms shut down, and shortages and starvation quickly follow.

See:
China
Soviet Union
Cambodia
North Korea
Cuba
Venezuela
Etc.

Price controls fail every single time they are tried.

Because producers refuse to produce at a loss.

Dumber’n a box of rocks is Camel A. HairAss!

“When government prints more money, your money is WORTH LESS!”

That’s the line I use that opens people’s eyes.

"How the Biden-Harris Congress's Economy Left Most Americans Behind"

There! Fixed it.

Congress could have impeached and removed likewise corrupt OBiden-Harris from office any time they wanted to, but scandalously refused to do so. So elite Congress destroyed Trump's thriving economy imo.

In fact, since worthless incumbent career federal lawmakers and renegade states have repeatedly proven that they are enemies of the people imo, it is now up to Democratic and Republican Trump supporters to effectively "impeach and remove" ALL (exceptions?) state and federal lawmakers and executives in November.

In other words, it's now up to Democratic and Republican Trump supporters to support hopeful Trump 47 with a new, Constitution-respecting Congress, new state lawmakers too, not only so that he will not be a lame duck president from the first day of his second term, but will support him to quickly finish draining the swamp.

Finally, let's not allow the anti-Trump media try to fade our memories of what we witnessed on July 13.

“When government prints more money, your money is WORTH LESS!”

They will try to blame inflation on Trump's stimulus checks, but if he didn't do that they would have blamed him for not doing it.

I can see blaming Biden, but what did Harris have to do with those trade deals that sent our manufacturing, tech, money, and tax base out of the country?

Cast the tiebreaking vote on the bill that paid for wasteful green new deal nonsense. Was against pro-US energy for 3 years until she saw the polls, and then claimed she was for fracking. At a minimum, we can’t trust her.

I agree we can’t trust her, but none of what you mentioned is worse than what the free traitors did to our country.

You include Trump among “free traitors?”

Depends. I have no problem with “fair trade” in which American workers are competing on a level playing field. What I have a problem with is forcing American workers to compete with slave labor or workers making $5.00 a week. Which side would you say he falls on?

I would say Kamala is for importing the 3rd world in every way, and determined to attack Trump because he would try to do something about it. To succeed at that would require some cooperation from congress.

I would say Kamala is for importing the 3rd world in every way

All sides were in on that. The dems because they want the votes, the republicans because they wanted the cheap labor, and us who voted FOR it by choosing price over American labor.

and determined to attack Trump because he would try to do something about it.

Two words. Paul Ryan.

To succeed at that would require some cooperation from congress.

She would likely get it from both sides.

Paul Ryan crafted and passed the largest tax cut in history.

No one would take the Speaker job. He took it and then proceeded to pass the tax cut

He had a lot of help getting that tax bill passed.

However...

The snakery of Paul Ryan: One of the first to have the Steele dossier in hand as he sent investigators out to probe Trump

Of course he had a lot of help from the GOP on this too.
