‘Furious battles are underway’: Kursk residents call on Putin for help after Ukrainian incursion

Ukrainian forces are pushing further into the Kursk region of Russia, in a cross-border incursion that surprised even American officials, multiple US and Ukrainian officials tell CNN.

Ukrainian forces are comprised of a mix of Ukrainian regular and special operations units, unlike previous Ukrainian operations inside Russia that often involved undercover units and local sympathizers.

The intention, say US and Ukrainian officials, is multifaceted, in part to disrupt and demoralize Russian forces and in part to divert Russian forces away from other parts of the eastern front.

Russia claimed on Thursday to have halted a Ukrainian incursion into its territory, but later said that some battles are ongoing in the Kursk region. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, units of the “North” group of its forces, together with the Russian Federal Security Service, the FSB, “continue to destroy Ukrainian armed forces formations in the Sudzhensky and Korenevsky districts of the Kursk region, which are directly adjacent to the Russian-Ukrainian border.” CNN cannot independently verify these claims.

Kursk residents, who live in the Sudzhansky District, recorded a video address to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday asking for his help, saying he has been misinformed about the situation on the ground and the Russian Defense Ministry’s statements about things being under control are untrue.

The address was published on a local Telegram channel that is dedicated to covering the latest news out of the town of Sudzha in Kursk region, which has been under Ukrainian attack for several days.

“These lies enable the local residents to die. The Chief of the General staff recently told you that the situation is under control, but today huge furious battles are underway in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts,” one of the residents said.

“Sudzha was attacked, turned into ruins in hours."

The 75,000 you mentioned were not the initial assault. They were the followup troops on the everwidening area of control.

The assault was narrow and is now proceeding on three roads in Patton like haste. The center assault seems to be heading to a nuclear plant. It was within about 25 KM yesterday and I don’t know about now

The forces are proceeding rapidly as were the Wagner force down south earlier.

[and according to the Russians, HIMARS were used to destroy a column of Wagners: 100 dead and 112 wounded in clinics.

Thanks. I saw that video, but wasn’t aware they were hit by cluster bombs. The casing doesn’t appear on the video, so you gotta wonder if the picture and the video are in fact linked.

Two issues with the claim they were Wagner come to mind. First, how did they make it back so quickly from abroad? Second, how did they get caught in the open so easily? Isn’t Wagner a little like Russia’s Waffen-SS - ruthless killers, but elite and highly competent due to a difficult selection process?

1. Wagners were stationed in Belarus.

2. American satellites are observing UKR, while Russia satellites are watching each other - just in case. Also UKR has new app on phones that allows real time reporting, so likely targeted by spec ops troops.

3. Feared, dreaded, mostly dead.

On August 9, 1999, V.V. Putin was appointed acting Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. So today is the anniversary, 25 years.

Happy birthday ;-)

—”What I’m hearing is 75,000 men...”

The Russians have similar satellite viewing and overflights, spies, far too much to conceal.

75K troops could easily consume two gallons of potable water a day/man and more if on the move. ~10,000 gallons per large tank truck. And they will get hungry.
Anything with an engine or motor that generates heat is easily detectable and difficult to conceal.

Radio silence between the many units? Possible, not probable.

Cell phone usage by the troops? Much tighter than the Russians but could never be 100% Could be fully encrypted but increased usage is a big tell.

"I can’t think of anything more degenerate than mocking a people who have been attacked, and are fighting to survive. Used to be only leftists talked like that."

Seriously? Well, here are a few things far more generate than that: Rooting for a horribly corrupt quasi-nation (Youcrayne) steeped in child trafficking networks, organ harvesting gangs, money laundering operations, dangerous biolabs, neo-Nazi militias and widespread, massive grift and government corruption - now funded by OUR tax dollars.

Here's something else far more degenerate: Mindlessly propagandizing for and defending its gay dancing, grifting "leader," a degenerate, corrupt, money-grubbing freak who has exposed his genitals to naked children while prancing around naked in grocery stores and who offered satanist "artist" Marina Abramovic, a darling of the pedo-leftist "Spirit Cooking" elite set, an ambassadorship.

Overwhelmingly, it is leftist scum, RINO pigs, globalists, MIC types and the amoral corruptocrats who hawk their wares, Democrats and WEF types who support your "cause." Add yourself to that "illustrious" list oh king of all spitting, seething, screeching, idiot Zeepers.

Ukraine sent a thousand men in. 600 have been eliminated so far. On a mission to nowhere.

And if this is true, that’s 600 more shattered families. Only a leftist could want this destruction to keep going.

You live in a dream world in which Ukraine is a land of nothing but child trafficers and gay dancing.

Idiotic childish fantasy view of the world.

You don’t know a damn thing about any 600 out of a thousand troops killed. Another fantasy.

60% losses on mechanized troops that are rambling through lightly defended rural land, is highly unlikely.

And all the silliness about families shattered. It’s called a war, stated by Russia and yeah troops get killed. That’s what Russia has caused.

But in your view, the world is a better place because we have Vladimir Putin to attack countries and make them safe from gay dancing.

‘Who Dares Wins’]

Wasn’t the excuse that they were getting ready to reinforce Kharkov? Or were paranoid the Russians were getting ready for a thrust into Sumy for another run at Kiev? Offense or defense, they all need food and water. Their cup runneth over with dummy vehicles and (Honda?) generators to generate heat signatures.

The Russians weren’t stupid or caught off guard in the usual sense. They merely trusted that the White House’s threat of withholding weaponry and aid and very evident fear of Russia would hold the Ukrainians back. This was essentially Iraq exercising on Kuwait’s border, then crossing over.

Going forward, the Russians know their border isn’t sacrosanct, that an occasional desultory raid isn’t the worst that can happen. They will fortify it with front line troops and equipment, to ward off future such issues.

The wild card is the prospect of a Trump victory. If Trump does, as they fear, cut off aid to Ukraine, this offensive is Ukraine’s last hurrah* before Russian victory and occupation followed by the kind of brutal insurgency that followed WW2, where the niceties of civilized warfare go out the window.

Bottom line? This is Ukraine’s one chance to grab a good chunk of Russian real estate. There won’t be a second, which is a good reason for Syrski to devote significant resources to the effort.

The guy who came up with the 75K estimate is a Desert Storm vet, a tanker. He’s been keeping track of units stood up by Ukraine and publicly acknowledged equipment transfers. In his estimate, Ukraine has 2,000 armored vehicles unaccounted for, that is perhaps an equipment bank they’ve been holding back for the right operation. While it’s unlikely they’ll all be committed for this roll of the dice, it’s not unthinkable a huge chunk will be, given the political uncertainty surrounding future aid.

* This kind of bet makes a kind of sense in that if Ukraine begins to collapse as Trump takes office, the humanitarian catastrophe that ensues may force his hand, push him towards assisting Ukraine against his personal inclination. My bet is that to be top dog, historically-speaking, during his tenure, Trump needs to deny Putin victory in Ukraine. However, the Ukrainians are taking Trump at his word, which seems very favorable for Putin’s agenda. So they are planning for the worst, figuring that if they are wrong about Trump, everything they lose here, he’ll replace and then some.

Which fantasy world are you in now pal? I made up no facts and posted nothing inflammatory.

This is the dishonesty I hate to see here in FR. Go look at the insane kooky inflammatory claims I was responding to.

Such as: Ukraine isn’t a country,it’s all pedophiles, and the president exposed himself to children in a grocery store??

That was 10% of the stupid crap I responded to.

And you must be a fake phoney fraud to give me grief.
