My hubby and I received notice that we are required to sign up with ID.me in order to access our SS info. My hubby has done so and it was very glitchy. It worries me that our government is forcing people onto a platform that you can also use to shop. I don’t understand the technical part of it all but it makes me nervous.

Your instincts are correct.

In fact anything on the Internet is hackable by folks with the proper skills.

If you want privacy talk to your dog.

Outside.

No cell phone.

There is a second option to log into “SSA.gov”...other than the the private company/3rd party “ID.me”....it is “Login.gov”:

https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/HdkwsoView.action

https://login.gov/help/

(In reality “Login.gov” is probably implemented by a 3rd party govt. contractor, so probably just as vulnerable to “mayhem” as “ID.me”).
