Amid the unrest over actions in the Gaza War, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said Sunday that the commonwealth will permit “peaceful” protests, but will not tolerate intimidation and encampments on college campuses.
Since Saturday, protestors have been arrested at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg and in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech.
During CNN’s “State of the Union” television show on Sunday, Youngkin said that the First Amendment encompasses freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration. Still, he added it does not allow for intimidating Jewish students, preventing them from attending class and using annihilation speech to express deeply antisemitic views.
The war between Palestine and Israel has lasted for over six months following the assault by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel near the Gaza Strip.

A protest supporting the destruction of Israel and the extermination of the Jews? OK, as long as it’s “peaceful”. Try this will a similar objective applied to, say, BLM and see what “peaceful” gets you.
Time, place and manner.
Freedom of speech allows all to speak, even the degenerates. If they didn’t speak up, you wouldn’t know who they really are.
So your point is: Given the "right time", the "right place" and the "right manner", a "peaceful protest" calling for the extermination of any other minority group would -- or, rather, should, in consideration of "freedom of speech" -- be allowed to proceed. (It's early out here and I'm still on my first cup, so admittedly it's possible that I miss your point.) Cheers!
If my kids were college age and we were college shopping, any “school” where these protests are taking place would be off our list immediately. I will not support this by paying tuition to an institution that allows this. I would never make a donation again.
I’ve read where parents are taking their kids to look at the “Southern Ivies” instead.

Yes.
Seems that ‘I may not approve (nor condone) your speech but I will defend to the death your ability to speak’ has been “lost” on FR
Course, the Lefties & their (R)N(C) ‘friends’ failed to actually break-up, arrest, nor prosecute those that turned any/all such protests into violence, destruction & violation of Rights (property theft, stopping students from attending class [Right of travel, false imprisonment], etc.)
The University of Mary Washington could be the only university in the USA named in honor of a Tory...but the Wikipedia article on Mary Ball Washington dismisses the rumor that she was a Loyalist sympathizer as unfounded.
You nailed it.

I disagree that freedom of speech is "lost" on FR; rather, it is recognized on FR as its application is limited to government; to government power and authority.
Consider further that -- as you know -- there are recognized limits to "free speech" such as the subject at hand, which speech is in the form of actively supporting -- and in some instances literally calling for -- the death and destruction of those free citizens with whom the protestors disagree.
As history shows clearly, this speech crosses a very dangerous line in addition to be an untenable position to hold, as these "fighting words" necessitate action by government ... by itself something we should all strive to avoid.
Where are they supposed to sleep? In their dorms? C’mon, those are for useful idiots, not agitators!
No, let them keep it up.
Thank you. That’s exactly what I meant!
KKK and Nazi rallies are allowed but with Permits. Why should this current crop of terrorists be give special treatment when their message is the same?
Permits are required with Time, Place and Manner including names of participants . Civilization must reject this Anarchy.
