So, grin western elites with “stupid” painted on your foreheads as the world looks on with incredulity (another big word of similar Latin derivation) at your stupidity.

To put the West at an economic disadvantage. The BRIC nations argue the West has polluted far mor over the last hundred+ years and so now they need to be able to use cheap energy even if it pollutes. Global climate change is just the lever to make it easier or China and India to compete.
