Stellantis continues trimming its workforce as it focuses on electric vehicle production in the US
Stellantis, the parent company of several auto brands, including Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler, confirmed on Friday that it will be laying off hundreds more U.S. workers as it continues to trim its workforce amid its transition to electric vehicle production.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the automaker had instructed several white collar employees working in software, engineering and technology to work from home on Friday morning, and then held meetings where the workers were informed that they were losing their jobs.
Around 400 people were let go in the latest layoff round, the Journal reported, citing internal Stellantis documents viewed by the newspaper.
The automaker confirmed the layoffs when reached by FOX Business for comment.
STELLANTIS TO LAY OFF THOUSANDS AT JEEP PLANTS, BLAMES CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS REGULATIONS
"After rigorous organizational reviews, Stellantis confirms that we will reduce our engineering/technology and software organizations by about 2% in the U.S.," the company's statement read. "These reductions will be effective on March 31, 2024. Stellantis will offer support for those affected including a comprehensive separation package and transition assistance."
The company added, "While we understand this is difficult news, these actions will better align resources while preserving the critical skills needed to protect our competitive advantage as we remain laser focused on implementing our EV product offensive and our Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan."
DODGE ANNOUNCES FIRST ELECTRIC MUSCLE CAR IN CHARGER LINEUP
Stellantis' "Dare Forward 2030" strategy includes the launch of eight new EVs.
The company has held multiple rounds of layoffs over the past year and offered voluntary buyouts to more than half its 12,700 salaried employees in the U.S. last year in a move to cut costs as it moves its focus to EVs and takes on increased costs from its new contract with the United Auto Wokers union.
Excellent information.
Stellantis is not American
Per Wiki
“Stellantis designs, manufactures, and sells automobiles bearing its 14 brands: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall.”
And inconthievable!
Yep...
You can drive from Rome to Berlin in about 12 hours. That’s the distance between Myrtle Beach and New York..You can cross the entire European Continent in less time than it takes to get halfway up the East Coast of the US...
Man buns, minicoopers and 6.5 creedmores
Even as electric vehicle sales are tanking.
Another idiotic decision.
No doubt when they’re finally forced to admit this was another mistake they’ll come back and beg for another handout.
Hell no.

Fixed misleading statement in article
Ev's are simply not acceptable for most people in the US. The might work OK for many families as a second car, but few can afford a $50,000+ second car. As a primary car, EVs are simply not acceptable, for many reasons: They take too long to charge. They need to be charged too often. In several years, when there's no alternative, there will be insufficient electrical power. They have limited space for passengers and cargo, especially when you consider their heavy empty weight. They cost too much to charge when not at home. They risk burning down your house if you charge them in your garage. You can't charge them in overnight in hotels and motels. Etc. None of these problems will be completely cured in the next two decades. In fact, most of them will be worse.
“laser focused.”
Do you know how much I hate that phrase?
> Ev’s are simply not acceptable for most people in the US. <
Everything you said in your post is true. But the Federal Government just doesn’t care. They will slowly tighten the noose until an EV looks like the best of many bad options.
I sure hope I’m wrong. But we should never underestimate the tyranny and power of a top-down, centralized government.
As just one example, think about the ethanol added to gasoline. Except for a few corn farmers in Iowa, nobody wants that junk in gasoline. It’s a terrible idea. Yet here we are.
What do you know? A bloodbath!
Our Dodge dealer has trucks parked everywhere they have space. Some are so boxed in, it would takes hours to get them out to test drive them. They can’t sell them and their ads are on the tv/radio all of the time.
“”While we understand this is difficult news, these actions will better align resources while preserving the critical skills needed to protect our competitive advantage as we remain laser focused on implementing our EV product offensive and our Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.”
Translation: we don’t know what the hell we are doing.
“medical device engineering jobs”
It’s not that easy to transition to a completely different industry. Even within medical engineering each job is specialized.
I do only polymers and packaging and have no idea how to do the other engineers’ job.
Oh, and by the way medical costs alone will bankrupt the United States.
I don't think the white collar employees are union, so they are always the first to go. No repercussions when firing them, no union to deal with.
Probably going to hire a wad of slave labor imported into America by Nikita Bidenskyyyyyyyy to vote for communist “demonRATS”.
“..Firing the engineering department sounds like an admission that the company doesn’t expect to be around....”
Certainly looks that way.
They blew just about every bit, if not all, of their seed capital on EVs.
They put “all their eggs in the EV basket”.
The EV market has crashed....hardly anyone is buying them.
With high inflation and their products priced sky-high, they see the long-term “writing on the wall”. Stick a fork in em....they’re done, and they know it.
Well they only have two plans to enrich themselves via the American people so it is a combo mandate ban plan.
Yet Jaguar-Land Rover, despite high prices and relatively poor quality, is selling everything produced, including the 400-500+ horsepower models.
Funny how all these LARGE layoffs do NOT seem to impact Biden’s UNEMPLOYMENT numbers.
