Apple Directors Al Gore, James Bell to Retire
WSJ ^ | 11 January 2024 | Aaron Tilley

Longtime Apple board member Al Gore is retiring from the board, the company announced Thursday. The former U.S. vice president had been a board member since 2003, a witness of the company’s rise and transformation a few years after the return of co-founder Steve Jobs as chief executive.

“For more than 20 years, Al has contributed an incredible amount to our work—from his unconditional support for protecting our users’ privacy, to his incomparable knowledge of environment and climate issues,” Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said in a statement.

Retired Boeing company executive James Bell, who joined Apple’s board in 2015, is also retiring. Gore and Bell both reached the age of 75, after which Apple directors don’t stand for re-election per company policy.

“Mandatory board member retirement at 75 years of age. Interesting concept.”

When voting proxies I vote no on the following:
1). Over age 70
2). Over 10 years service on the board
3). Zero business experience. Academics, social justice non-profit execs, politicians, and professional attorneys get a no vote from me.
4). Serving on more than 2 boards. Most corporate board members are paid $300K plus per year. They can’t be doing an adequate job for any single company if they are serving on too many boards. Serving on a corporate board should not be an honorary position or a DEI appointment. There should be serious work for the generous amount paid. Board members should be active, not just showing up for 4-5 meetings per year to have a nice lunch and rubber stamp management.

Notice how many high level leftists are “retiring” or changing jobs!

You are an impressively diligent shareholder for corporate governance.

--- "Nice gig for part-time work."

It is highly rewarding to sneer at the actual mere citizens, especially those in "flyover" country.

The carbon credit scam should be illegal.

"The estimated total pay for a Director at Apple is $385,139 per year."

Nice gig for part-time work.

Yeah, that's some flying around money.

Not first. First tax it in a way designed to recapture as much of its capital’s value As possible. It’s only fair as essentially all the wealth of Big Green came via government. Then outlaw it.

I just watched the classic movie "Meet John Doe" last night with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. It was made in 1941 on the eve of WW II.

The theme is what you wrote: "It doesn’t matter who we elect. These people rule over us no matter what the voters want."

Great movie.

Meanwhile there is a chorus of deniers who cannot let it be known how left-wing Apple is as a company.
