True. But all minds are capable of convincing themselves of depraved things.

As Jordan Peterson has said, all of us are capable under the right circumstances of being guards at Auschwitz. If any of us were Germans at that time and were forced to become guards, we would do as required and slowly (or perhaps quickly) make the transition into monsters.

Anyone who thinks he isn't capable of becoming a monster doesn't know himself.

That said, there are some who might commit suicide during the transition, but that would be a very rare exception.
