We have had military assets close to Russia and vice versa since the 19th century (mainland Russia and mainland Alaska are only 55 miles apart, and the two islands in between — one of which is Russian, and the other American — are only 2.5 miles apart). During the Cold War we had military assets in Berlin just feet away from Soviet military assets. We had military assets throughout Europe as did the Soviets.
Funny, isn’t it, that we didn’t go to war with Russia. But, where we DIDN’T have military assets the Soviets DID go to war (such as in Afghanistan when the Soviets invaded in 1979, and stayed for a decade).

You conflate liberalism with leftism, in which case your statement is blatantly false. Indeed, it is LEFTISM — which was aided and abetted and encouraged and funded by the Russians — that introduced the greatest evil upon the world (communism).
Yes, there are liberals who are very much leftists; then again, there are many who are not. JFK was a liberal; but he was also a very staunch anti-communist (i.e., he was NOT a leftist). Leftists are all about destroying the established order and replacing it with an authoritarian world that THEY control. Classic liberals strongly oppose that. Do you know that many of America’s founding fathers were classic liberals? They started and fought a revolution to rid themselves of an authoritarian monarchy.

The military of 100 years ago doesn’t compare with today. Respect Russia, as you would want to be respected. If having military assets in Cuba was unacceptable, then so is having military assets near Russia.
Liberals and socialism are no difference. There is not a single liberal who doesn’t believe in socialism. The world has changed. Conservatives and libertarians are the classic liberals. The modern liberal wants socialism and would kill to have it.
