Their argument — and apparently yours, as you parrot them pretty much verbatim — is that establishing a defense against something in fact creates the opportunity and motive for the possessor of that something to strike against that defense. That’s like saying a rapist is more inclined to attack a woman who has shown she will resist with deadly force such an attack.
