McCarthy’s fault as well for going along with the ridiculous notion (in order to secure his election) that any member of the conference could, at any time, launch a motion to vacate the chair. That was not a good idea, under any circumstances. And now here we are in this hot mess.

It is my recollection that ONE member could file a motion to vacate until Nancy Pelosi changed that House Rule. McCarthy only agreed to revert to what the rule had been prior to Pelosi.

See below-—Nancy Pelosi changed the rule and McCarthy agreed to have the rule revert back to what it had been for decades.

That was rule that was in effect from 1910 or 1920, it was removed by Nancy Pelosi
