EXCLUSIVE: Trump Pledges To End Biden’s EV Mandate, Calls On UAW To Ditch Democrats
DC Enquirer ^ | 10.14.2023 | Arjun Singh

Former President Donald Trump has promised to repeal the Biden administration’s regulations to promote the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. economy and called on the United Auto Workers (UAW) union to back him, according to a video provided exclusively to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Trump, the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, has previously criticized President Joe Biden for his administration’s regulation requiring future heavy vehicles to meet higher emissions standards, and subsidies for newly purchased electric vehicles enacted under the Inflation Reduction Act. In his video, Trump vowed to repeal the pro-EV measures, calling them “insane.”

“Biden’s electric vehicle mandate and his insane fuel economy standards, and there’s no economy to it, are forcing companies to drastically raise prices and even eliminate their affordable gas-powered models altogether, which people want,” Trump said.

“I will repeal Joe Biden’s electric vehicle mandate, and I will do everything in my power to achieve a drastic reduction in the cost of a new car,” Trump said, adding that “prices have spiraled out of control” under “Crooked Joe.”

Trump also called on the UAW to support him in the 2024 presidential election. “We’re going to bring back auto manufacturing to the United States of America. Tell your union head, Shawn Fain, tell him not to endorse the Democrats,” Trump said in the video to UAW members, who have been on strike since Sept. 15 over a contractual dispute with large automobile manufacturers.

“The communists want a world where you are dependent on public transportation, which they control, while the rich and powerful cruise around in luxury electric vehicles or other types of cars that are very expensive, they don’t care, looking down on the people, looking down on hard workers, and looking down on the people who really built our country,” Trump said.

“I’m going to make you rich, I’m going to give you a job. We’re going to make a lot of money and a lot of cars,” he concluded. “If you want a new car that you can afford, you have to vote for Trump. If you want jobs making new cars, you have to vote for Trump.”

The UAW did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I suspect the US auto makers would just middle-finger Trump and go all-EV anyway.

EVs are a temporary measure until hydrogen takes over as the fuel of the future for automobiles.

It takes a lot less workers to make an EV than an ICE car

Hydro is another unicorn, many unsolved problems. ICE cars work great and the truth is there is enough fuel for a thousand years.

We’re on a driving trip in California visiting family and friends. At the airport rental car counter I told them we couldn’t accept an EV due to vagaries of recharging. The guy replied no one wants them and luckily we did get an ICE vehicle. The PTB must know EV mandates are going to KILL the travel industry but it appears they don’t care. Which is very telling.

Of course you’re right! The EV is BS environmentally seen, and it’s not even all that practical for much of the population (folks that need to drive long distances, living in Alaska...), but someone is making a lot of money.

Remember “cash for clunkers?” Do you think that helped the environment?

***Big business has learned that the way to make a lot of money is through government.

They are similar. Hydrogen potentially solves the range anxiety problem. If I am driving GA to TX I am not trying to add hours to my trip. I recently learned on the third charge cycle the charging rate is slowed dramatically to protect battery life. You are limited in your use of DC fast charging. Sure I don’t do trips like that weekly but I don’t want to buy or rent a whole separate vehicle just to take a road trip. With a standard hybrid or ICE I don’t have to worry about it. Plug-ins are useful is specific use cases if you have short commutes most of the time and can plug-in every night.

Fascism.

It’s the 21st century American Way. Politicians and their big business patrons have all the control and ALL the wealth. The rest get to be peasants and slaves.

I think Ford Motor Company is getting ready to sacrifice itself on the alter of EV’s. In the past, they had good accountants that managed their cash better than the other 2 domestics and could weather stuff. Their EV decisions I suspect is going to overule any wise cash management they’ve had.

My daughter just had cousins visiting from N.C. They decided to rent an EV at the airport to see what is was like. The car was the size of a VW Bug…really small. When they needed to charge it they took it to the local high school which is close to my daughter’s house. They left it overnight and when they picked it up the cost of the charge was almost $70. I don’t think the car would even hold that much in gas.

You’re correct about the UAW leadership. Like all modern union leaders, they are hard-core leftists, a lost cause.

But the membership is another story. I hope Trump keeps pitching to them.

End all unconstitutional mandates. Fed has no authority for most of what they do.

“repeal café”

The Reason Foundation in the early 90s conducted a study on the impact of the CAFE standards. They found that the increase in injuries and deaths in auto accidents as a consequence of the reduced mass of the cars to meet the CAFE standards led to costs 5 times the savings in energy costs .

This is yet another illustration of the liberal mind; there are only benefits and no costs to their misguided feel-good policies. The experience of the past 50 years with these various policies is there is zero benefit and enormous costs.
