TACOMA, Wash. — Police wrestle the unarmed black man to the sidewalk. One officer pushes his face into the pavement as he pleads in vain: “Can’t breathe.”
Witnesses capture the scene at a dark intersection on their cellphones — one yells, “Hey! Stop! Oh my God, stop hitting him!” — and the medical examiner rules the man’s death a homicide.

really surprised it is not frontpage news across the country
“The Pierce County medical examiner determined Ellis’ cause of death was a lack of oxygen as a result of his restraint, with meth intoxication and an enlarged heart as complicating factors.
But medical experts hired by the defense are expected to testify it was the meth that killed him.”
This occured pre Covid outbreak.
Dems are in the WH.
They can’t use this one.
you are right
but it happened pre-floyd
i guess blm was not organized yet
Another dead thug?
The old Georgie Floyd Prayer, “The Can’t Breathe Prayer” has become quite popular on the live cop shows. They were putting cuffs on a young woman the other night and she was complaining that she couldn’t breathe. LOL!
“But medical experts hired by the defense are expected to testify it was the meth that killed him.”
So, if he had not encountered the cops, he would have just dropped dead on his walk home with the box of donuts? Yah. That’s plausible.
This is not the Floyd case. Floyd was seriously drugged up and trying to pass fake money. This guy was just walking home. What was the “reasonable suspicion”?
There are some very rough neighborhoods in Tacoma. My son lives in one that is slowly being gentrified. But you gotta drive through a lot of trash to get there.
Election season is coming, so articles like this will be forthcoming.
“Police claimed Ellis had tried to open the door of another vehicle at the intersection, struck the window of their cruiser and swung his fists at them.”
The jury will decide who is most credible.

I don’t know what to believe about this case. He had a history with the police. Six months before he died, he was arrested for robbing a restaurant, running around naked, and charging an officer. That video is right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0bv696-d2Y
But, is there a full video of the night he died in police custody? I can’t find one.
This is a new challenge the police have. In the old days they could deal with “repeat offenders” that they all knew about with “discretion” like they showed in this case. But that was when everybody just “believed the cops”. Thanks to cameras, we live in a different world. And with multiple witnesses at the scene that say they saw none of what the police describe the diseased doing, these cops may be in big trouble.
Even though a person may be a “known repeat offender”, it’s looking like the days of meting out “street justice” even when they were not caught red handed is a thing of the past.
Hey! Steve Raible is still on the beat! I haven’t seen him since the 20th century.
Yep. Everyone with a cell phone camera is a citizen journalist today, and more and more officers wear body cams. Maybe these officers (with no body cams) were retaliating, just looking for a reason to stop him. Or maybe he really did what the officers claimed he did, but the witnesses didn’t catch everything on video. Who knows... Hopefully the truth (whatever it is) will prevail.
The only surprise here is that the cops are actually being prosecuted.
The guy is a loser and it is a losing case, this is why you have not heard about it.
besides the Tacoma-Seattle thugaphere is growing so fast you cannot even say Kia/Potshop without one of them being rammed and ravaged.

First response seems to be “I caint breeve!” to any act by the pool these days. Handcuffs too tight? Caint breeve!
They’ve found that it has a marginally better survival rate than, “Hands up, don’t shoot!”
