House Republicans moved to strip $300 million in Ukraine aid from their defense spending bill Wednesday night and set up a separate vote on the funds, reversing course ahead of an expected final vote this week and amid uncertainty about whether the bill would pass.
The House Rules Committee convened a last-minute meeting to remove the funding for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative — which is intended for training Ukrainian soldiers and purchasing weapons — from the Department of Defense appropriations bill. The panel approved it to move as a stand-alone bill.
The party-line vote to remove the funding from the bill was a transparent move to get enough support for the spending measure to pass in the slim House GOP majority amid opposition to funding Ukraine. Republicans can spare just a handful of votes, since all Democrats are expected to oppose the bill’s final passage.

The $300 million is gone from the "must pass" defense bill.
Good!
It’s about time love for THIS country prevailed.
AMERICA First!
Ukraine LAST!
Glad all that money staying here. A couple from Ukraine moved into our neighborhood, not awful people but they don’t speak English.
And we need all that money for our country. How much will it cost to deport thousands of invaders and build a proper wall?
It’s not the end... But nice victory.
Biden is still requesting $24 billion !
At least it’ll all be in a separate vote rather than snuck in one of these bills...
Cut off the funding for this debacle of proxy war permanently.
I’ll make a deal. We’ll fund Ukraine into 2024. But the WALL must be built.
Absolutely! The b@stards won’t give up.
The Senate one is hopefully dead on arrival I dont know.
Some Freepers replied to me and said they dont think it’ll go anywhere.
AMEN to that!
“Glad all that money staying here.”
It was going to anyway. Very little money goes to Ukraine. Most (95% or more) goes to New York banks who disperse it to the State Department or the Dept. of Defense.
They’re using the money to replace the old weapon systems we give to Ukraine.
Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA), the minority whip, told POLITICO that she intends to force Speaker McCarthy into a corner on aid to Ukraine because: “We want to continue our support for Ukraine,” said Clark.
REALITY CHECK Democrats want to continue to use your tax dollars to pay for
<><>57,000 Ukraine First Responders’ salaries,
<><>pensions, and salaries for health care and education officials,
<><>other “humanitarian” needs,
<><>salaries, pensions and “associated expenses” of the massive Ukrainian govt,
<><>aid to Ukranian small businesses including helping them find foreign markets.
<><>and seeds and fertilizer for Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
Nope, suckers deal. They’ll send the money and cancel the wall.

For how long? I'll wait until a Bill is passed and signed before believing Republicans aren't the gutless wonders they've always been.
It’s going to be passed separately with dems supporting it. Gives the freedom caucus top cover to oppose it and everyone inside the beltway is still happy.
If we’re never going to build the wall, we are witnessing the fall of America. There is a historical precedent for this. The Roman Empire collapsed when they were unable to defend their borders.
In dollar terms this is a fart in a whirlwind. In principle it is a whole lot more than that.
Pentagon exempts Ukraine operations from potential government shutdown

The Pentagon will exempt its Ukraine operations from a potential shutdown if lawmakers can’t agree on a deal to fund the government by the end of the month, allowing key training and other activities in support of Kyiv’s forces to move ahead uninterrupted, according to a Defense Department spokesperson.
(snip)
“Operation Atlantic Resolve is an excepted activity under a government lapse in appropriations,” Sherwood said, referring to the named operation for DOD’s activities in response to the Russian invasion.
The move means that the U.S. military’s activities related to the war, such as training of Ukrainian soldiers on American tactics and equipment, as well as shipments of weapons to Kyiv, will continue despite any potential shutdown.

Build the wall first, at a minimum to FEDERAL SUPERMAX SPECIFICATIONS, AKA FLORENCE, COLORADO!
Then we can consider a few bucks to the criminal regime in Ukraine.
By the time the wall is complete the Ukraine war should be over anyway.
