I can’t speak for everybody, but EV or not, a $50,000+ vehicle is not what I’m budgeted for. Even $30,000 is within my means, it is still a little north of my comfort level.

Put the EVs on a cargo ship and sent it to the North Sea. The EVs can self-ignite and burn like other EVs that have gone there.

Honestly if you feel like you have to/ want to go this route, hybrids are the best and safest way to go, plus charging issues are not the full ev problem issues.

Their designs are more stable overall. They are not exploding and or burning down peoples houses or catching fire while driving. And with some models, you can replace the battery pack yourself.

Seems we have to have a song regarding Evies catching on fire. How about this Talking Heads song burning down the house.

Several reasons I suspect. First is the cost. There’s only a certain segment of the population that can afford the luxury of a 50 k plus second vehicle. Second is the fact that actual range is nowhere near the advertised number particularly in very cold or very hot weather and last may be the spate of spontaneous fires that as more and more of these glorified golf carts enter service will no doubt increase. In reality EVs are not fit for purpose and people are beginning to realize it.

I’ve already explained this, but if the articles keep popping up, I’ll keep explaining it, YET AGAIN:

The people who NEEDED electric cars to show off to their friends (Tier 1 customers) now have their electric cars, so no more of those sales. The next market (Tier 2) are people who consider EVs to be a better VALUE for their cost, when factoring in their usefulness.

Unfortunately for the EV-Pushers, the government has not yet required Facebook and other sites to SPIKE reports of EV Fires, EV Costs, etc. So these Tier 2 customers are just saying NO to EVs, as they don’t see a downside in gasoline vehicles, which have essentially been PERFECTED by now, with excellent fuel consumption (certainly in hybrids), and virtually no tailpipe pollutants.

So, it was fun to have our ‘fling’ with EVs, but now cold, hard, market forces are making their way through the ranks.

Time is money.

I don't have time to sit around waiting for an EV to charge during a moderately heavy day of travel.

I don't have time to go out of my way to find a charging station with a convenient charge time.

With gas, I pull into a station, fill up, and am good to go in 5 minutes. Plus I don't have to search for a filling station.

The only way these get sold is when (not *if*) they outlaw the ICE for non-transport vehicles.

My theory on how to end any product is to have it painted with graphics of Dylan Mulvaney. Put a bunch out as NASCAR Pace cars. Kinda how they killed the Fiero.

People do not want their homes to burn down.

People cannot afford the repairs/maintenance on these vehicles.

Lack of charging stations throughout the country.

Political leanings some, but the cost and convenience chief among them.

If you live in a small town, not a charging station for hours.

Why do these articles and the accompanying comments almost completely ignore the recent Tesla market and technical advances?

Almost all non-Tesla EVs have significant challenges in costs, performance and charging network capabilities when traveling. Normal local use includes at-home charging overnight and is virtually a non-issue.

The discussion points concerning battery life and replacement are generally not accurate for Tesla’s. I have a friend who has a ten-year old Model S. The first 3 -4 years after new is when the range drops the most. But thereafter there has been virtually no change in range for many years. The range is still above 85% of the range when new, and there is no reason nor need to change the battery in this case.

You do have to keep charging in mind when traveling away from home, but Tesla drivers do this routinely with virtually no problem. On the other hand, the non-Tesla charging options on the road are - basically - pathetic.

Where I live, in a smallish urban area, it has gone from a rarity to see a Tesla, to being a common every-day occurrence over the past three years.

Finally, the Tesla Model Y was the #1 selling sedan in the US in the first half of 2023, at about 190,500 vehicles sold. The #2 selling sedan in the US was the Toyota Corolla at about 150,700 cars sold.

Worldwide, the Tesla Model Y was also the #1 selling car for Q1-2023, at 267,200 sold in the three-month period. The Toyota Corolla (all variants and trims) was #2, having sold 256,400 in the quarter.

This is noteworthy inasmuch as the Corolla was the worldwide #1 selling car in 1974 for the first time, and has been the #1 seller for many years until replaced by Tesla this year.

Ford recalls over 870,000 F-150 trucks in US

Ford Motor Company is conducting a recall of hundreds of thousands of F-150 trucks in the U.S. that could potentially experience a wiring-related problem with their electric parking brakes.

About 5 months ago I was driving in Connecticut going south on I-95 near New London and got caught behind a oil truck that flipped over and exploded. I was stuck in traffic for TEN hours!! That’s how long it took for me to get off I-95 and get to another highway.

Around 6 to 8 hours I started noticing cars were being abandoned by the side of the road, then more and more of them. What were they? ELECTRIC CARS. And there was no way anybody could come and pick these people up, so these people must have walked forever to get help. I called up local motels all of them were booked, so these people with electric cars were basically effed unless they lived in the area. Screw those things.

Along with all the other arguments about reliability and cost, is RANGE coupled with cargo capacity.

You get out of the city, when you have to load the cattle rack, haul a yearling to market, drive across the county to pick up a calf and 400 pounds of calf manna, pulling a trailer with a mower on it, with the a/c on, range starts to be an issue.

0 to 60 acceleration is not the concern. It's a PICK UP, fer god's sake.
