Reservists from the elite Sayeret Matkal commando unit on Friday informed their commander that they intend to stop volunteering for reserve duty, as early as next week, in protest against the legislation of the government’s judicial reform, Channel 12 News reported.
The reservists also presented a letter that has already been signed by 170 soldiers in active reserve service, and said that they intend to reach 250 signatures.
The reservists made clear that they are aware of the harm they may cause by refusing to serve.
"In the current order of the day, we have no other course of action left in our attempt to stop the destruction that the planned laws will inflict on all of us," they said, according to Channel 12 News.
IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi earlier this week commented on the issue of refusal to serve, after IDF reserve officers were rumored to have threatened to leave the army if judicial reforms are approved in the Knesset.
"These days require us to focus on the security mission and the cohesion that supports it so that we are ready for any challenge that presents itself," he said. "In the current reality, no one has the privilege not to show up for every challenge and mission."

What are they protesting? “Judicial reform” doesn’t give us much to go on.
Is your PM in the hospital?
My question as well. The issue isn’t clearly defined. I guess you must be well informed about Israeli internal politics to understand the concerns.
Reportedly.
Okay, thanks. I read it on an odd blog, so I didn’t trust it.
The government wants to limit the power of the judiciary. Right now they can strike down any law they don’t like for any reason. And the legislature and cabinet only has a say in the appointment of a minority of judges to the high court. The left-wing bar association gets to appoint the rest. This is somehow unacceptable to leftards in an elite commando unit.
I hope somebody will explain what ‘judicial reform’ is all about. I know it has been a huge controversy but I do not know what it is all about.
Nevermind, thank you Eleutheria5.
‘Judicial reform’ is mostly irrelevant. Three million clones of Adam Schiff want to impose a Leftist totalitarian dictatorship, same as they want in the USA. Leftists are Israel’s violent Antifa.
Israel’s judges are mostly Left, and the system allows the Leftist judges to control who gets to be a judge.
“Judicial reform” would end that. The Left cannot tolerate not being in control of the judges and being able to strike down any laws they hate.
It’s what I figured...leftists involved in some way.
Btw, the US armed force wokesters do it differently via woke programs, woke enlistees, dumbed down standards and privileges for the dainty few so that decent military personnel can no longer serve in such outfits.

“Kontorovich notes that IsraelâÂÂs judiciary began assuming more powers in the 1990s, including the right to reject executive appointments, review administrative decisions, and declare legislation unconstitutional in advance.”
and
“In the absence of a written constitution, Kontorovich argues, IsraelâÂÂs Supreme Court has been acting as a supreme legislative body â what Levin described as a âÂÂpolitburoâ â that largely selects its own members.
Israel-born constitutional scholar Ran Hirschl has coined the term âÂÂjuristocracyâ to describe the global phenomenon of courts arrogating more power for themselves while claiming to defend democratic norms.”
excerpt:
Most significantly, for all intents and purposes, the Supreme Court in Israel operates as an oligarchy: a self-selecting/self-perpetuating fiefdom of like-minded, leftist ideologues who reflexively rule against the conservative government. Foxes guarding the hen-house.
Even more so, due to the lack of any separation of powers (Israel does not have an official Constitution), Israel relies upon a supposed place-holder, that is, a set of âÂÂBasic Lawsâ which, if implemented properly, are meant to serve as a bulwark against out of control leaders. Tragically, they are also twisted into pretzel-like knots by the resident justices to mete out leftist ends! Nothing is out of their reach. Incontestably, maintaining the status quo and the balance of power remains above all else. ÃÂber alles.

juristocracy - That about sums it up, doesn’t it. Tyrannical rule by another means.
