We have a Navy tradition in my family. My son was thinking of joining. I talked him out of it
The military is not what it once was. My GF’s son is Army, stationed in Germany. His command has a policy that if you put in for it at least a week in advance, then you can have a three day weekend (not charged to your leave) to explore Germany and Europe. He has not worked more than four days in a week in the last two years.
Years ago I would have encouraged my boys to consider joining the military after HS. Today, they would be as likely to join as us buying Bud Lite at a baseball game. ZILCH!
Enemies, foreign and domestic must be fought from all sides.
The problem is the military-industrial complex. We should have a huge navy, that’s about it. So we’ll preserve the freedom of the seas.
I wouldn’t encourage joining ANY part of the government regime right now.
If all those in govt who are opposed to the current regime just left, it would shut it all down. Chaos they could not get a hold on to recover from. It would take them down.
Don’t worry, they have big plans to Start a War and reinstate the draft, War has always been the easiest way for the moneychangers and their puppets in government to clean up the mess they made with the national currency.
USAF retiree here, daughter of USAF retiree and husband was USN retiree. One stepson active duty USAF who plans on only doing 20. Many valid reasons have been voiced by others, but the one I tell folks who ask me is just look at the way the government handled Afghanistan and Sudan—leaving Americans and equipment behind. Any government that has so little regard for its assets, both human and material, will turn on you, not support you, use you and toss you aside. There are other better job options these days, especially in the trades professions. Stay well clear of this present day horribly corrupted institution, leaders and Commander in chief included.
The military is an official shxtshow now. Men can be women, women can be men, may as well have the obese identify as thin.

I retired from the navy 20 years ago. Even back then the writing was on the wall. It started with the Tailhook witch hunts. By the time I retired, the the top was rotten. No way would I advise anyone to join the military today.
Do not join any branch of the military even the marines. Trust me....don’t.
If recruitment continues to go south, budget cutters will have field day.
This country needs more private sector employers and employees.
Independent employers & employees that aren’t into stupid ideologies that hinder progress in our current level of civilization.
Straight White Men have been the backbone of the military for 250 years. That demographic died at twice its rate of the population in Iraq and Afghanistan which tells you a lot about who was in the front line combat units.
The Woke political animals who run the Pentagon have made it clear that they consider Straight White Men to be evil, and a problem - and that they need to promote any and every other demographic ahead of them for “equity”. OK, fine. I think all Straight White Men should avoid the military like the plague, particularly if they are patriotic traditional Americans. Let them fight their next war with all minorities and trannies and women. Let these other groups take all the casualties for the Neocons for a change. Let’s see how that goes.
Think of it this way … Would YOU want to serve in any military with this laughable goof as our Commander in Chief? Would you trust ANY command he issued?

How much will my military retirement be compensated for my deep engagement in the recruiting process? If the active duty recruiter gets paid, why shouldn't the retired recruiter?
