Which will cut the payback period for my solar in half. I bought it for independence, not economics.

I bought it for both. I believe long before the Dims implement a mark of the beast style permission slip for who gets energy, they'll try to price hike energy out of our reach. Basically IMHO, the economics of solar is the independence.

As power rates and natural gas rates go up while gas at the pump stays high, my wife thinks I'm genius for the overall energy project of going solar, making our house all electric, and doing most of our driving in the EV. I tell her that I hate the Dims making it so that free American citizens have to think like project engineers just to maintain our financial freedom. And that's just for those of us who live in a climate that's good for solar. I don't know what can be done for our fellow Americans who don't live in the south.

All true.

Unfortunately the part about not being in the right latitudes or having a good roof/property is too true.

A combination of small wind turbines and thermo-electric generators, maybe? The TEGs would require something to burn, but in the winter you'd need that anyway, just to heat and cook with. Tegmart.com has units that you can set right on top of a woodstove. They might not supply enough power to run a household (depending on your usage), but they can keep some of your batteries charged.

Driveonwood.com has ideas for running a vehicle or gas-powered generator using wood, charcoal, or other home-grown burnables.
