A Moscow military garrison court has fined Colonel Ivan Mertvichshev, who was responsible for overseeing draft procedures, 400,000 rubles (€4,470) for extortion in the form of attempting to obtain a Bosch washing machine worth 72,000 rubles (€800) as a bribe, Kommersant reports.

Mertvichshev was employed in the main organisational and mobilisation department of the General Staff. He was also banned from serving in official positions for two years.

The colonel was initially charged with receiving a washing machine bribe in exchange for a positive review of a military enlistment office’s operation over the course of the mobilisation in Russia. However, his charge was reclassified as attempted fraud, the newspaper notes.

Mertvichshev confessed that he wanted to make money because he urgently needed a new washing machine after home renovations.

Did the washing machine come with an operator like the one shown below?
If so, I can understand the colonel’s actions here.

How does a Colonel have to scratch for something so basic.

so you're admitting Bahkmut is still not captured yet?

after 8 months, 50,000 Russian dead, billions of rubles spent, and thousands of pieces of equipment lost ...

that's pathetic ...

I know a couple who immigrated to the US after the fall of the Soviet Union. The husband refused to return ever. He said he had nightmares that he’d somehow get stuck there. The wife went back several times. She said that everything required a bribe. Every document, every interaction with any official of any type and with many store clerks. Want good service? Just put a few dollars, depending on what you want, on the counter. The money will vanish, and you’ll get service with a smile.

After the war started several mysterious fires happened, especially in fuel depots. A Russian being interviewed on TV said, “Imagine you’ve been selling the fuel under your command for cash. Then, suddenly a war you had no idea was on the horizon shows up. You’ve been told to provide the millions of gallons of fuel supposedly in the tanks you control. But there isn’t enough fuel. So, you have a sudden fire, and everything gets wiped out and you’re in the clear.”

The Russian aircraft carrier was in a floating drydock. The dock started sinking. A couple of emergency diesel pumps should have started up. But their tanks were empty. The man in charge of the dock had sold the diesel that was supposed to be in those tanks. He was sentenced to prison.

The way our government is killing our industries and regulating us to death, it won’t be long before that describes the US gasoline and diesel fuel market.

I’m serious. We have too much normalcy bias in the USA and people really believe “it can’t happen here.”

And our “woke” military is trying desperately to achieve the ineptness and corruption of the Russian military. It’s called the Milley Syndrome.

“How does a Colonel have to scratch for something so basic.”

Not just any old washing machine. He wanted a Bosch which is elite. This is about bragging rights. I suppose his wife would be forever thankful....for a few months.

Corruption is part of the culture, and will always bear tainted fruit.

Reminds me of the 1981 Pushkin crash, where a load of Soviet high command officials overloaded their aircraft with various ‘loot’, which ended up killing all of them when plane crashed and burned on takeoff.

Wow, you Russians have been trying to take control of this town since August a d you still only have 90% of it.

That’s pretty pathetic for what was thought to be the 2nd most powerful military in the world.

Looks like you Russians are weak.

“Doubled the size of NATO countries over 20 years after promises not to do so.”

The USA made no such promise. Why are you repeating that lie?
