And his most beloved song condemns mankind to an unrelentingly cruel, moronic fate.
Sixty years ago, Beatlemania was rocking the world of music. Writing in the Atlantic, Colin Fleming refers to 1963 as “that magical and formative year for the band,” “the year the Beatles found their voice,” and “the band’s annus mirabilis.” It set the stage for their fabled first visit to America in February 1964.
I was 10 years old in 1963 but I well remember black-and-white newscasts of large British audiences screaming adulation at Beatles performances. Particular attention, it seemed, fell upon their founder, co-lead vocalist, and guitarist John Lennon. In time, he came to be idolized as a peace activist with a streak of mystical guru in him. His assassination in 1980 canonized him in the minds of all too many.
Stop the John Lennon worship, please. The guy was a fool, a wife beater, a hypocrite, a serial liar, a homewrecker, a drug abuser, and an awful father. He even enjoyed making fun of people with disabilities, mocking and bullying them time and again.
As one of the Beatles, he wrote some memorable songs to be sure. But he also wrote (or co-wrote) some of the worst lyrics that ever spilled from a pen.

Imagine no John Lennon.
Don’t like the song either. He left his loyal wife, for someone who cheated on him the whole time.
Steely Dan’s Donald Fagan was not a fan either. Here’s the tale of a song he wrote about JL: https://www.songmeaningsandfacts.com/only-a-fool-would-say-that-by-steely-dan/
One of the best things he did was "And Your Bird Can Sing". When listening to it remember three things: Jagger,Marianne Faithful and the fact that in England a guy's girlfriend is commonly referred to as his "bird".
It's easy if you try!
He’s been dead for 43 years. Give it a break.
“In My Life” was brilliant. Like any prodigious songwriter, some are great and some are really stinkers. Lennon wasn’t faithful to his first wife nor was he faithful to Yoko. His last few years saw a change in him for the better. We all have our faults and Lennon was no model to emulate but people make choices. Pat Boone is ridiculed but lives a Christian life as others that deserve mention.
Imagine may have the most evil lyrics ever written. I would really like the song if it were sung in a foreign language so I wouldn't know what he was singing because I really like the composition.
He also wrote tax man, and revolution. If you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you’re not gonna make it with anyone anyhow. If you’re talking about destruction, don’t you know you can count me out.
This is yet another boring article about how much the author hates the song imagine. Period there are certainly worse human beings, and many many worse musicians than him. And his son is a conservative.
He’s history. Most yutes know not of him. They have their own artistes to worship.
Across the Universe is great too. Who’s worshipping the guy? This is click bait.
Think Ill listen to some John Lennon solo albums on the Hi-Fi...said no one ever.
Apparently Lennon was coming around when he got shot, which is why I always wonder in the back of my mind if Yoko had something to do with his murder.
It is a Communist screed, at best and at worst a description narrative of George Soro’s “open borders” open worldwide socialist dream of elites running all the rest of the world,by “holy writ” of self righteous arrogant bigoted dishonesty and woeful incompetence of “equity”.
The story I heard is that by sheer coincidence, Lennon and Ronald Reagan were slated to be interviewed at a halftime of a Monday Night Football game, but not interviewed together.
But they did run into each other, and apparently Reagan spent a few minutes with John explaining the rules of American Football, because it was the first football game John had ever watched.
That was Harrison. He was the deepest of the fab four, and the most willing to learn--going to India to study with Shankar proved that.
I’m a Ringo guy.
“Ringo, are you a Mod or a Rocker”
“I’m a Mocker!”
For a drummer, he was a good filmmaker 😉
+!
Some say I’m a dreamer.
