The Biden administration was forced to offer up 2,600 square miles of federal oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico this week, following a deal made by West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) in exchange for his support of the left’s climate legislation last summer.

Major oil companies have offered bids on more than 2,600 square miles (6,700 square kilometers) of federal oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico in a sale mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Wednesday’s auction was the first in over a year and was expected to draw interest from major companies, such as ExxonMobil and Chevron.

"Fossil fuel" is a non-sequitur, in need of basic questions being probed.

Fossils are molded shapes in solid rock. Petroleum and related hydrocarbons are found in liquid and gaseous form.

Biden Administration Forced To Expand Gulf Drilling

No one should believe that for one second.

Drilling and extracting takes years. The campaign for president starts in just a few months. Thus, it's for political points and expedience only that Biden is giving the go-ahead for drilling. Once he or any other democrat becomes president (if they win), the licenses for drilling will be pulled, and the expenses will just be losses to the oil companies. The XL pipeline was near completion but was cancelled by Biden; so, forbidding ongoing drilling will be a lot easier.

Anybody that believes Biden or any democrat is willing to give up on their promise of 'no more oil', needs to has his/her head examined.

He may have been forced to offer up the leases, but the administration will slow walk the permitting.

don’t be fooled, I’m confident the 2600 Sq miles are already geo mapped as dry land, IOW minimal oil or gas deposits, prob to the point that oil companies won’t bid for tracts n test wells drilled.
Manchin knows this also, but it provides him cover.
What has Manchin done for the miners in WV?

I distrust this.

The government is famous for auctioning off areas where they have a good idea there’s no oil at. And then later claiming victim, blaming conservatives and oil companies, when they had a good idea all along that it was dud (underwater) land.

“See! We have gazillions of new miles for drilling and still, no new oil. It’s a conspiracy of oil companies to rob you blind! We need windfall profits taxes, it’s the only true way to put a stop to your dwindling bank account because of high gas prices. Profits, profits are the real problem!” - and other arguments to this affect.

We’ve all heard it before.

Remember, this is The Obama / Biden Regime. Obama ignored a Federal Judge who ruled that Federal leases could not be ended just because you want. Eventually the Judge ruled the Obama drilling ban unconstitutional. Obama just wrote a new Executive Order that was basically the same as previous EO. Inexpensive, abundant energy equals more freedom. DemocRATS and more freedom does not compute. They will do anything to gain more power over anything and everything. Kalifornia already has planned blackouts, and rolling blackouts. If all you have is an EV, and you cannot charge it during the blackout, oh well. Kalifornia mandated only EVs for the KKKalifornia future, but they refuse to build more power plants.

My question is how much money and personal pleasure did "honorable" Senator Joe Manchin get from oil lobbyists to push the dems to give up on this? You know it was some bloody good times! The saying "crooked as a politician" ain't just talk.
