A month after Russia informed the U.S. that it is suspending participation in the last remaining nuclear pact between the two countries, a senior Pentagon official said on Tuesday that Moscow is now refusing to hand over data on its nuclear warheads, due at the end of this week.

In response, the U.S. will not provide Russia with data on its deployed strategic warheads, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plumb said on Capitol Hill.

Plumb told a hearing of the House Armed Services subcommittee on Strategic Forces that the U.S. had pressed the Russians on the issue during an “interaction” on Monday.

“Every six months, under the [New START] treaty, we exchange data on kind of high-level [warhead] numbers. Russia responded that they will not be providing that information,” he said.

“And so, as a diplomatic countermeasure, the United States will not be providing that information back.”

So we are now hassling with the the Russians over nukes for the first time since the cold war and engaging in tit for tat escalations

I feel so reassured.

Go get ‘em, Lloyd Austin and Mark Milley

Right, Russians have never broken nuclear treaties before. Okay

President Donald J. Trump to Withdraw the United States from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty February 1, 2019

Russia has not, unfortunately, honored the agreement, so we’re going to terminate the agreement. We’re going to pull out.

RESTORING ACCOUNTABILITY TO ARMS CONTROL: President Donald J. Trump is taking decisive action to hold Russia accountable for its violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Violations must have consequences. Nearly 6 years of diplomacy and more than 30 meetings have failed to convince Russia to return to compliance with the INF Treaty. Enough is enough.

At President Trump’s direction, the United States will suspend its obligations under the INF Treaty effective February 2, 2019.

The United States will also deliver formal notice on February 2, 2019, to Russia and other Treaty Parties, that the United States will withdraw from the INF Treaty in 6 months.

Only Russia’s complete and verifiable destruction of its INF-violating missiles, their launchers, and associated equipment can save the INF Treaty.

I feel so much safer with the world on the brink of nuclear Armageddon over a corrupt to the bone tyrant of Ukraine.

Treaties must be based on trust. Why should the Russians trust a Biden government that blew up their pipeline and then — what a joke — accused them of destroying their own pipeline?

Russia had good reasons to destroy NordStream

they had unilaterally cut off gas flows to Europe, and so would be sued for billions for not upholding a contract they freely signed ... with NordStream gone, they had an excuse

yes ... trust is the issue.

and Russia deserves none - they promised to respect their neighbors borders in 1991, then invaded Georgia for no treason

they further promised in the Budapest Agreement to respect Ukraine’s borders if it gave up its nukes ... then violated that promise too

but you never criticize Russia or Putin, do you?

I believe that the Pentagram was told by Russia that they are no longer “in” on that treaty. So why would they expect Russia to supply them the numbers?

There is no trust between the two countries at all since the Biden regime.

Honoring so called “treaties” is more than a one way street.
The hypocrisy of the Biden regime is amazing.

In another year or two Russia's economy will decline so far they will be unable to sustain the war. When that time comes Putin and his inner circle are gone. It will be a repeat of the collapse of the USSR.

Shortly afterwards the happened the US and allies had a look inside how the Russian military really worked. There was congressional testimony that Russian nuclear capability was so degraded their ICBMs would be lucky to hit the state of Utah. Given what Russia has shown of its real military abilities, its likely their nuclear arsenal is in as bad a state as the rest of their military.

Putin is not suicidal. Every time the US and allies ship new weapons to Ukraine, Russia threatens escalation and the bluff is called. Putin is not going to risk Armageddon over Ukraine. We really need to move past this nuclear hyperventilating.

aren’t you Russia-defenders always telling us how modern Russia is, that it can do anything the US can do (if not more)?

ergo, Russia must have the capability to take out underwater targets too ...
