Stephen Talbot knew that taking on a project about the Vietnam War was going to be an incredible task.
There were going to be hours of research, as well as dozens of interviews planned.
Then the pandemic hit in March 2020 and it looked like the project wasn’t going to move forward.
Then Talbot got an idea.
“I thought, what if I did all of the interviews audio only,” he says. “This made sure everyone was safe and I had the information that I needed.”
Flash forward a few years and Talbot’s “The Movement and the ‘Madman’ ” will premiere on New Mexico PBS, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
The documentary is presented under the American Experience series and it will also stream online on the PBS app.
“The Movement and the ‘Madman’ ” shows how two antiwar protests in the fall of 1969 – the largest the country had ever seen – pressured President Nixon to cancel what he called his “madman” plans for a massive escalation of the U.S. war in Vietnam, including a threat to use nuclear weapons.
At the time, protesters had no idea how influential they could be and how many lives they may have saved.

The protests extended the war until we lost it. largely due to the handcuffs and leg irons the rats put on us. We never should have been there but since we were win and get out.
The basic problem was that pigs like Kerry and Fonda declared the Commies as the good guys and us as the bad guys.
Further illustrating that most government decisions are bad ones.
They weren’t Anti-War, just felt we were fighting for the wrong side.
But credit where it’s due, at least Vietnam did realize that Communism is a bunch of BS, and pretty much abandoned it, at least on the economic side.
Communists began this movement.
Their offspring are the woke leftist Dems that have implemented totalitarianism now.
This is going to be great. The protestors will finally have a hat with a logo. The citizens in my former hometown of Eugene Oregon will finally be able to wear a hat that prompts them to say to each other, “Thank you for abusing those baby killers”.
I was at both events, to my eternal shame.
On the way to Washington, a caravan of about twenty of us stopped at my parents’ house, and my parents (blessed memories) had buckets of KFC chicken for us.
According to Soviet defector Arkady Shevchenko, in the aftermath of the 1968 “Tet” offensive in the War in Vietnam (during which, and contrary to some sources, the Communist forces took a shellacking), the Soviet Politburo held a “Come to Lenin” meeting in Moscow to mete out the blame.
During one of those meetings, the Chairman of the KGB (and future General Secretary of the Communist Party) Yuri Andropov took the floor and said they needn’t fret over winning the war in Southeast Asia because they were winning the war on the American college campus.
And it bears mention that a great many of the higher-ups in today’s demoncrat party were college students in 1968 and among those being purposefully indoctrinated.
My Father was against the War, but with a good argument. While we were wasting lives and resources in Vietnam, the Soviets were bulking up. It’s similar to Ukraine bulking up China now. But most war Protesters were straight up Marxists.
“The Movement and the Madman.” Anything out of PBS about Vietnam will generate the only kind of movement it truly deserves.
And one supposes, among their “experts” will be the execrable, negative IQ, cancerous husk Lame Brain Hanoi you-know-who, if she’s not too busy rounding up her posse to murder all pro-life American.
Not until “we lost it.” Until we tucked tail and ran away.

And what did the Soviets do with all that bulking up?
I am not persuaded the South Vietnamese and our own POWs we abandoned would accept that claim.
They were winning until Reagan reversed it, and destroyed that part of Marxism.
