Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan requested $375 million and 265 new full-time employees to promote “environmental justice” in his Wednesday testimony to the Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works while defending the agency’s budget.
The EPA established the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights (EJECR) in September and is now seeking a cash influx to expand those efforts through support for community organizations, according to Regan. About one-third of the funding would go into grants to outside groups, and the newly proposed budget would approximately double the agency’s funding for civil rights issues.
“In fiscal year 2024 EPA requests more than $375 million and 265 [full-time employees] for the Environmental Justice Program. The funding will help to expand support for community based organizations, indigenous organizations, tribes, states, local government and other territorial governments so that they can identify and develop solutions to their environmental justice concerns through multi partner collaborations,” Regan said.
“The development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies has not always ensured the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income,” Regan said. “In the long term, the vigorous enforcement of civil rights laws will address historical and systemic barriers that contribute to the environmental injustice affecting vulnerable communities.”
The funding request was originally included in the agency’s 2024 budget proposal.
“The FY 2024 Budget will expand upon the FY 2023 enacted budget to enhance the Agency’s ability to develop, manage, and award new competitive grants to reduce the historically disproportionate health impacts of pollution in communities with environmental justice concerns,” the budget reads.
The EJECR will already be distributing about $3 billion in environmental justice grants to minority and low-income communities the EPA believes have been disproportionately harmed by pollution and other environmental problems.
The EPA did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

I don’t know if this country will ever be fixed. But if it is fixed, that fix will involve public guillotines and absolute rivers of blood. The ideologues and the bureaucrats have got to go.
Get rid of the EPA
They will all be working from home/ The biggest scam going. Washingtoon DC is a ghost town during the Mon-Friday work week these days. Pre-Scamdemic there were crowds everywhere. There were construction cranes all around. I have this from a close relative.
The ultimate no-show job. Get paid by the Federal gov’t for sitting in your pajamas, getting on your computer one-two hours a day and doing some fake work that no one cares about. Call up for some Chinese food around noon.
Especially true in a social worker agency like EPA.

This "Environmental Justice" is nothing more than expanding the administrative state, and is unconstitutional.
The EPA no longer provides responsible and scientifically sound advice.
They produce lightweight Environmental Impact Statements instead to please their Democrat sponsors.
Wind turbines on land and on water have devastating negative effects on wildlife. The land based wind turbines kill thousands of eagles, bats, and other flying birds; they provide noise and radio interference; they are not viable sources of power when there is no wind. Their life cycle costs are poor.
The ocean wind turbines are killing whales and dolphins, and interfering with national security.
Not only that, they are ugly and provide aesthetic pollution.
EPA has failed the people of the United States by ignoring responsible scientific and economic negative impacts for major technologies.
The House controls the purse strings.
McCarthy and company should tell them to piss off.
