Florida GOP senator introduces 'The Ultimate Cancel Act' to kill state Democratic Party

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (TND) — The Democratic Party is all but dead in Florida — no Democrat holds a statewide office — and now a state senator who was chairman of the Florida Republican Party is trying to kill it entirely.

Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, R-Spring Hill, introduced SB1248 — “The Ultimate Cancel Act” — on Tuesday, “requiring the Division of Elections to immediately cancel the filings of a political party if certain conditions exist.”

Among those conditions: “If the party’s platform has previously advocated for, or been in support of, slavery or involuntary servitude.”

Southern Democrats wanted to continue slavery during the Civil War. Florida seceded from the U.S. when Republican Abraham Lincoln became president. That was well over 150 years ago.

If passed, the new law would take effect July 1 and the Florida Democratic Party would have to reregister;

by filing a certificate showing a copy of its constitution, bylaws, and rules and regulations. Also, “The name of the organization must be substantially different from the name of any other party previously registered with the department.

And, “The filing may not be submitted later than 6 months before any election in which the political party seeking to register wishes to nominate candidates for public office.

WESH quoted Ingoglia pretty much saying he was retaliating against Democrats.

For years now, leftist activists have been trying to 'cancel' people and companies for things they have said or done in the past," Ingoglia explained. "This includes the removal of statues and memorials and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason. Ingoglia had been a state representative and until recently, chairman of the Florida Republican Party.

Last November, the multi-millionaire home builder was elected in an open district representing parts of Citrus, Hernando, Sumter, and Pasco counties. He beat Brian Moore of the Green Party; there was no Democrat in the race.

Then, within weeks, he opened a campaign account as a first step in seeking re-election in 2024, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Nikki Fried was the last Democrat to hold statewide office in Florida. She served as the state’s commissioner of agriculture until last year when she ran for governor. Fried was defeated by Charlie Crist in the primary.

Fried was replaced in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services by Republican state senate president Wilton Simpson, who beat Democrat Naomi Blemur for the job.

Ingoglia took Simpson’s senate seat. Simpson could not run for reelection due to term limits.

That is a fair point.

Have always supported reparartions for african americans to be paid by the democratic party. And do it seriously to force the education of Americans. Leave the funding by democrats buried in the legislation like details in any legislation. Put it in the republican party platform. Make republicans the party of reparations and make the dems try to explain it away why they dont support it. If they do support, the party would have to pay for it. Its a win win situation, regardless of results. It sets a narrative and puts democrats back on their heels. Just like they accuse republicans of cutting social security or “taking away healthcare” whatever that means, every election. Unfortunately, the republicans dont have an ounce of cranial matter or an ounce of testicular matter to go along with it if they did.

Dems will do the “Nixon flipped the Southern racists along with Strong Thurman/Dixiecrats from Democrats to Republicans in the 1960s” agit-prop crap despite Jimmy Carter sweeping the south in ‘76 (Most Dixiecrats stayed in dem party btw).

Federal judge (If Florida Supreme Court affirms the law) with likely 9-0 SCOTUS opinion will deem unconstitutional as hades.

Nice ‘hoist you on your own petard’ but not Constitutional at all due to free assembly, etc...

Democrats haven’t followed the Constitution in years. Free assemble went out the door with smoking bans
