Your points are very well taken, except for the statement that we
were in an ice age. We ARE in an ice age, The Ice Age. It's the only one seen, so far, in the geologic record. We just happen to be in an 'Interglacial' period during this ice age, a short period 'between the glaciers'. It's clearly not the warmest of the last 5 'interglacials', but fortunately, it might be the longest. The end could be nigh. Here's the data:
