Gen. Glen VanHerck, head of NORAD, takes questions on Chinese spy balloon. Was asked about previous balloons administration says crossed US in Trump years. Has very little to say. Then asked: If you didn't know about them then, how do you know now?

"We're still drafting that story. We'll provide more detail in a leak to the New York Times some time next week."

Waveforms, and search fences would have to be changed. You will also be tracking a lot of avian (bird) targets.

Previous CCP balloons were smaller and more dismissal. And ignorable by our then Covid obsessed military. And useless NORAD sitting on their asses working from home most of the time.

Most of the FedGov works scamming from home. This means they can maintain the status quo. But cannot react in a crisis or difficult situation. IOW their work amounts to playing video games from home.

NORAD is designed for situations like three minute warnings from incoming nuclear sub launches.

Bottom line—they never thought they would have to deal with press conferences (since the press would all be dead)....

How do you know now...Hmmm...I'm starting to connect he raid on Mar a Lago....which made the NEW archivist look at everything and found an "Oh oh" floating among the records.

My guess...it wasn't noticed at the time....UNTIL...the balloon crossed the USA.

Once again...we have been deceived by this administration...and the previous Dem conspirators.

What he's saying is absolutely impossible. If they have the info...they got it from when it occurred.

And personally...I'm betting that it occurred early on in the Biden administration and not in the Trump years. That's their MO...

The truth....We got the info from Joe's garage...

In a folder marked “Top Secret”...found in Biden’s basement.

You are already tracking the birds. You are just choosing to ignore them. Here is an idea that ESC people rejected—have a computer do the search without driving the display screens to filter out the birds and civil aircraft and look for other anomalies. If that requires changing search fences, so be it. After all, isn’t that what we pay those jamokes at whatever they are calling ESC these days to do?

No. A track is different than a low level detection. Tracks are processed and require specially scheduled track pulses. If we tracked birds, we would not radar transmitter energy or processing power to do anything else.

If you and ESC keep the ancient processors in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, you will not have enough processing power. But today processing power is cheap.

Birds and balloons fly at different speeds and at vastly different altitudes. Sorting them out would be easy for just about any with a background in radar. Too bad ESC seems to have kicked most of their engineers out and hired MITRE to perform that function.

I was told thousands of times in my four decades in the Air Force “That is impossible!” I looked around for the people who wondered if it was possible and put them on the task and kept the “That is impossible!” fools away from them. We completed a lot of “impossible” tasks over the years.
