As for the US testing balloons, a Maryland base had a balloon hovering over it for awhile. They would raise and lower it periodically, which gave a lot of material for jokes among the locals. My husband would regularly text me, “up” or “down” as he passed by on his daily commute. However, one day it pulled loose from its anchor and ended up creating a trail of destruction up into PA. Since then no other balloons have appeared over the base.

100% they used those balloon flights in 2019 to spread Covid! They were even over Mar a Lago with those balloons.
Never made sense to me that they contained their outbreak while it went crazy in the US, these balloons were likely in our skies all of late 2019. And it was a trial run for something really a lot more dangerous than Covid.
