Has there been much discussion about what could be inside? Anthrax, spores, graphene? We shouldn’t blow up what we don’t know will be released. Take a chinook up there and capture the balloon. Inspect it and return it to its owners if benign.

I think at 100k ft, there’s zero chance of taking/recovering it. I also think it’s an object that neither the FAA or Air Force can track...other than a visual.

This argument doesn't make sense to me. If they balloon is loaded up with something harmful, then the Chinese will be releasing it at the opportune time, perhaps a slow steady discharge. I strongly doubt the Chinese would arm the balloon with a dangerous ingredient, without also having the intention to release it.
