Former President Donald Trump is calling for the Chinese spy balloon floating over the United States to be shot down.
“SHOOT DOWN THE BALLOON!” Trump posted on Truth Social Friday morning, after the Pentagon confirmed Thursday evening that a Chinese spy balloon had been floating over the U.S. for several days.
entagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement Thursday:
The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now. The U.S. government, to include NORAD, continues to track and monitor it closely. The balloon is currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic, and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground. Instances of this kind of balloon activity have been observed previously over the past several years. Once the balloon was detected, the U.S. government acted immediately to protect against the collection of sensitive information.”
A senior defense official told reporters during a briefing, “We are confident that this high-altitude surveillance balloon belongs to the [People’s Republic of China].”

Seriously, are there any images available other than a white dot in the sky? Nothing from any airlines? you can see a lot of sky from an airline seat. It's a distraction. nothing more.
If Trump were president, he could do nothing to satisfy the communist Big Media.
If he ordered it shot down, Big Media would accuse him of creating an international incident and provoking the innocent and peaceful Chinese.
If he did nothing but “monitor” it, Big Media would accuse him of being weak and not protecting the United States.

The Chinese will advise President PuddingHead when they’ve gathered as much Intel as they need, then they’ll allow him to shoot it down. SloJoe will then look like a hero.
If it is a surveillance balloon from the CCP, we should shoot it down as Francis Gary Powers experienced as well as the 1000’s of flights over the USSR where anti-aircraft missiles were frequently launched. So there is precedent.
However, counterintelligence operations and technology can probably gather as much information of the balloon by letting it continue to fly rather than shooting it down. I believe this is what we did when CCP subs trailed our aircraft carriers collecting intelligence. We knew they were there.
The only other reason I see for it continuing to fly is if we shoot it down, China will accuse us of an act of war, which the media will then blame republicans for taking an aggressive stance. I so hate the Biden administration.
As usual, our government is lying to us. What is its elevation? Can we reach the object with a propellor airplane? If so, why not drop a weighted net over it. There has to be a way to capture it intact.
Can it be that it is so high that FedGov finds iself without any reliable means for forcibly taking it down out of the sky?
