Former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) said on Tuesday he would not run for Indiana Senate, clearing the path for Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) to become the frontrunner to replace the outgoing Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN).
“After what I hope was adequate reflection, I’ve decided not to become a candidate for the U.S. Senate,” Daniels explained in a statement to Politico. “With full credit and respect for the institution and those serving in it, I conclude that it’s just not the job for me, not the town for me, and not the life I want to live at this point.”
“Maybe I can find ways to contribute that do not involve holding elective office. If not, there is so much more to life. People obsessed with politics or driven by personal ambition sometimes have difficulty understanding those who are neither,” Daniels continued.
Should Daniels have entered the race, it would have sparked a costly Republican battle over the ruby red Senate seat that would distract Republicans from trying to flip over seats during the 2024 cycle. The battle would have also likely been a contest the more establishment and George W. Bush wing of the GOP and the more MAGA-leaning Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).

Daniels ran Purdue University for 10 years and froze tuition during his entire tenure. Previous to that it has risen for 36 consecutive years.

Then he won his senate seats month or so later and immediately voted with Biden exactly opposite of what he was saying here.

Mitch had Tim Scott, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitt Romney all lined up to endorse Daniels.
Guess the Turtle will just have to resort to withholding funds from Jim Banks’ campaign.

Given Banks win is a lay-up, he ought to plan for just that eventuality and only take grass-roots money.
Keep in mind, original Miotch will only remain in the Senate for the first 2 years of Bank's first Senate term, if that long. Miotch is not going to run in 2026. He's going to use the new Ky Goobernor -- who will likely be Cameron -- to appoint his own successor.
He was an excellent Governor. I am no RINO either. Pence was a failure compared to Daniels.
Freepers don’t want people who can actually govern. They want fist wavers and table pounders.
Back when Daniels was Governor, we were looking for someone who knew how to run things. This guy did. He is high IQ but he is not flashy and is rather quiet.
Being Governor is not the same as being POTUS.
I am not surprised he said no to this. I think he was done with politics.
But to some he’s just a “low energy fag”. This place is a real brain trust sometimes....

There’s more. Indiana is solid red. No excuse for the Dick Lugars or Chuck Hagel(NB.) types. Perhaps Banks should lighten up for consensus purposes until the election is over. He’s already got us. Now on to the general.
