One of the former Memphis police officers who has been accused of murdering Tyre Nichols allegedly beat up a prison inmate when he worked as a correction officer.

Demetrius Haley, 30, was accused in a 2016 lawsuit brought by Cordarlrius Sledge, 34, of partaking in a violent beating inside Shelby County Division of Corrections.

'That could have been me,' Sledge told one outlet. 'I could be dead. As it is, my body still hurts from the beating. It's gonna hurt for life.'

Haley is one of five former Memphis cops charged in the brutal killing of Nichols, 29, who was stopped by officers on January 7 as he was driving home before he was wrestled out of his car, Tasered, and ran away.

The officers then caught up with him several minutes later and and viciously beat him, holding his wrists as they pummeled him and kicked him.

Video of the incident was released Friday by the Memphis Police Department and sparked nationwide outrage and protests over the beating.

Nichols was battered so brutally he died on January 10 in the hospital from injuries sustained.

In an interview with the New York Post, Sledge spoke out on the lawsuit he filed against the institution and the officers.

This is what happens when you have DIEversity in action. They need their own country like Liberia and Senegal was originally planned for them to be sent after the civil war.

Monroe, Lincoln and John Quincy Adams all supported sending them back. What a different country this would have been.

I know a guy who is a corrections officer. He says he trusts the inmates more than the other corrections officers. Many of them are cruel.

If they had been sent back like originally planned, this country would have been a utopia paradise.

There’s no telling what these 5 criminal cops on the Goon Squad have already done. It was obvious they had done this before and enjoyed it way too much

The bottom rail on top in Memphis is pretty ugly.

Nah, we're human, we would have found another way to screw it all up.

That's what I tell myself anyway.

So, Mr Sledge, why were you in prison and why should I believe a single word you have to say about anything? You need to prove possession of some integrity before I will listen to you.

So far, you are at -100 points. Start digging your way out then get back to me.

It is an interesting thought.

Lincoln was for it. He did not see how free slaves could ever be integrated into society. It was free black men who were afraid they would be forced to leave the wealth and position they had acquired in America that were against the freed slaves being sent to Liberia. There is evidence to suggest they lied to the slaves and told them that a trip to Liberia was a death sentence. You might say they were the original race hustlers.

Up until this point there was NO COUNTRY on the planet that had ever tried to integrate large numbers of freed slaves of another race into society. We are the first to do it. How do you think it has gone?

On one hand you can point to the many wonderful contributions blacks have made to the American experience. They have made positive scientific, industrial, artistic, cultural, and political contributions too numerous to list here.

On the other hand you can point to their failure to assimilate into “white” - really American - culture and their propensity to blame any slight or failure on racism. This has led to a strange dualism of demanding access to housing, jobs, and education while at the same time separating themselves.

Guilt has led the government to spend literally trillions of dollars on programs to improve housing, jobs, education, and general welfare for blacks with little to show for it. Instead of gratitude, blacks are now demanding millions of dollars PER PERSON as reparations and are creating false documentaries to brainwash Americans into believing a history that did not happen.

So forgive those that suggest that - possibly - we may have been better off if the freed slaves had taken up Lincoln’s offer to relocate to Liberia. I don’t know if that is the case...I think our troubles come from bad actors using avarice and envy to turn us against each other...but, just asking the question does not mean they are necessarily racist. Maybe they are just tired of being labeled the bad guy for something that happened nearly 150 years ago.

Judging a whole race is racist, and makes one a pitwit.

Is that what they were doing?

I see someone asking a question...if, after the Civil War, the freed slaves had gone to Liberia, would we be having the issues we have today? Imagine having the retort that “your ancestors CHOSE to stay” when someone claimed inequity due to slavery. If it had been a serious, widely accepted option, how different would America be today? Would the blacks that had remained made more of an effort to assimilate? Would they have been more accepted since they - the already freed blacks - had at that time been making great strides in assimilation?

Would Africa be different today? Would the influx of (some) western educated blacks into that continent a couple of decades earlier made a difference? Could Liberia have become an example of a Capitalist Republic that would act as an example for the rest of Africa? Or would it have failed and led Africa even more down the path of Marxist-Socialism?

As for judging a race by the actions of a few - I would say there is a fair amount of that on both sides - and it needs to stop.
