A Taylor County jury found Johnnie Miller guilty in the Sept. 1, 2018, murder of his neighbor, Aaron Howard.
Miller's son, Michael Miller, who was also charged in Howard's murder, was found not guilty.
Both verdicts were unanimous.
After the verdicts were read, Michael Miller bowed his head in reaction to both decisions and a few audible gasps were heard in the courtroom.
When the jury was dismissed by the judge, Johnnie Miller addressed his friends and family saying, "There's nothing to cry about. I'm 70-something years old, there's nothing to worry about. Go home and get some sleep. Thanks for coming."
Johnnie Miller tried to give a statement to the media in the courthouse lobby after the verdicts, but attorney Graham Norris said he could not at the time.
The punishment phase for Johnnie Miller will begin at 9 a.m. Friday.
i doubt it...
Meanwhile, that cop killer up in Lubbock still hasn’t had to face trial, has he?
He must be from a good family. State is slow rolling, and the media keeps pretty quiet.
I found a news article that attempted to relate what happened in this incident. It was 3 white guys. HOward, the deceased person, was arguing with the father and son (Millers) over a box mattress found in an alley near their house. HOward wanted it in the dumpster the father and son did not.
Howard threatened the Millers with a baseball bat. The millers shot him 3 times.
Those seem to be the facts.
It sounds like the State of Texas is taking the position that the MIllers should have fought a very large man with a baseball bat in his hand and not shot him.
What a foolish thing to argue about. So sad.
My understanding is that date of the shooting was the first time the Miller’s had ever spoken to this Aaron.
The angry neighbor probably could have gotten the mattress removed or at least shifted somewhere else if he had kept his composure and spoke to the old man with some courtesy or respect. You dont march onto somebody’s land and order them to put some rubbish on it.
Both men were stubborn and quickly locked horns.
It was a argument over a ‘community’ dumpster. Neither guy owned the dumpster, it was part of the apartment complex. Either guy could have simply walked away. Sometimes, that’s the easiest thing to do in life.
Agree.
But, while I don’t THINK I agree with this verdict based upon the very limited information available, this father/son team were just dumb as posts for a. going outside carrying guns in this situation and b. shooting and killing another dumbass over a blankety blank fn box spring mattress.
All parties should have canned their ego’s and walked away!! I guarantee I would not have shot a guy dead over a gd mattress! I think that’s what the jury must have thought. Abilene is a good area and probably had a reasonably good jury.
I guess Johnnie Miller won’t be doing any more broadcasts on the PGA tour.....
