DeSantis Brags About Florida Budget That Includes Billions in Federal Funds He Opposed [06/2021]
Rolling Stone ^ | June 2021 | PETER WADE

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis approved Florida’s $101.5 billion budget, which includes a large chunk of Covid-19 federal relief funds from the American Relief Plan, which DeSantis once described as “Washington at its worst.”

Most of the approximately $9 billion federal relief funds will go to police, teachers and first responders, including $1,000 bonus checks for teachers, principals and first responders. Florida was able to increase its budget from last year by more than $9 billion, in large part due to the federal funds, combined with additional revenue the state generated beyond what state economists had predicted. Before the federal funds were allocated, the state was facing a crisis with its education budget and an overall budget shortfall of $3 billion.

But during a press conference Wednesday, DeSantis tried only to give credit to the Republicans in the legislature (who largely opposed the federal funds) and himself for reopening the state economy.

“Part of the reason we’re here is because we’ve had good stewards in the legislature who spend conservatively; and responsibly, but also the fact that Florida has schools open, businesses open and people having the right to work,” DeSantis said. “That has made all the difference.”

The Florida GOP even tweeted last week, trying to give DeSantis credit for the bonuses that were part of the federal relief. “Thank you for going the extra mile to keep our kids in the classroom!” the party wrote.

Democrats were quick to correct DeSantis. “You wouldn’t know it from [the governor’s] press conference, but Florida’s budget was bolstered by billions of dollars from the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress and signed into law by [President Biden],” Florida Democratic House co-leader Bobby DuBose tweeted. “That money, and the additional billions sent to local

More whining from the left because they don’t have something better to whine about. I don’t see the left’s states being in this position. Sucks for them and they hate it.

Why do eff’n groomer teachers get $1,000? What did they ever accomplish? Do they improve their profession year after year? The products of their indoctrination certainly does not show any improvement.

You need to post this old crap?

Much less from Rolling Stone? If someone else posts something from this site, you’d be one of the first to complain.

The point is, don’t confiscate our money, and then send back a little of it with strings attached. It was our money to begin with, to spend as we choose.

Once the money has been confiscated is DeSantis supposed to turn it down? No, he’s supposed to spend it as Floridians would have spent if they still owned it. Doing so is reason to brag.

Ok, let's do the math, Rolling Stone. Total Fla budget is $101.5B. The $9B in Fed funds that the Republicans allegedly opposed only gave them a $6B surplus. Big deal. Compared to Blue states, DeSantis can brag all he wants.

What is the point of this?

It appears to be attempting to assert that DeSantis received an unfair federal investment over other states, who have huge budget deficits.

No, that is not the case, at all. DeSantis should be proud of Florida’s budget, and its surplus.

And billions, this is chump change compared to Trump increasing the Federal deficit by $8 Trillion (40%) in just 4 years.

The Point is, don't bad-mouth funding (rightfully so) from the FedGov and then turn around and accept that same funding almost immediately.

The Point is, don't be a hypocrite.

I guess Rolling Stone wants the taxpayers in Florida to forego these Federal funds so that those funds can be given to a Leftist State like New York.

I have a better idea, all 50 states should refuse to take any funds from the Federal government. That would put a stop to the crazy goverment spending happening at all levels of government.

Shut down the money printing presses.

Judge Orders Trump and Lawyer to Pay Nearly $1 Million for Lawsuit Targeting Hillary Clinton

“Mr. Trump is a prolific and sophisticated litigant who is repeatedly using the courts to seek revenge on political adversaries. He is the mastermind of strategic abuse of the judicial process, and he cannot be seen as a litigant blindly following the advice of a lawyer. He knew full well the impact of his actions,” Judge Middlebrooks stated. “As such, I find that sanctions should be imposed upon Mr. Trump and his lead counsel, Ms. Habba.”
