The war in Ukraine could be decided this year, former US Army general says, warning of dire consequences if Russia faces defeat

Russian President Vladimir Putin's unprovoked war with Ukraine could come to a conclusion this year, according to a former US Army general who warned that the Kremlin would likely turn to the dire option of nuclear weapons if Moscow faces defeat in the conflict.

Retired US Army Brig. Gen. Kevin Ryan told Insider on Tuesday that he believes that Russia "would use a nuclear weapon before it allowed its military to be defeated in the field."

Putin has repeatedly threatened the use of nuclear weapons since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, but Ryan said that the Kremlin may seriously consider using them if Ukraine was "on the verge of destroying the Russian army in the field" or if Ukrainian forces were poised to recapture the Russian-annexed region of Crimea.

Any/Every nuclear power would use their nukes before allowing their army to be defeated in the field.

But US neocons and the Democrats in charge of government don't care.

The author contradicts that ‘unprovoked’ bit just a few words later:

“Putin has repeatedly threatened the use of nuclear weapons since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022”

I expect Ukraine to be totally devastated by the war whether they win or lose. And if they attain their “best case scenario” and seem to win the war, they will get nuked. And then maybe Russia gets nuked. And then maybe we get nuked.

There are no good sides to this conflict. There are no good outcomes. This is a game we should not be playing.

So we should sit back and let rogue nuclear powers run rampant.

Neocons and DC have no reverse gear. Russians see this as an existential threat. No westerners will entertain any negotiation besides complete Russian capitulation. Musk was savaged for even suggesting his idea of a settlement.

Yeah, a collision is coming. Way too many in DC have the “they wouldn’t dare” mentality.

So that means Ukraine and the West best surrender now - maybe even allow Russian to take all of Europe, right Herr General?

“So we should sit back and let rogue nuclear powers run rampant.”

Only those whom we do not want to fight existential nuclear war with.

And because contrary to what you have been taught since childhood, there is no justice.

DC deliberately pushed for, organized, created, and wanted this war. They even openly state their final goal is the destabilize Russia, install a western puppet and break it up into numerous republics. They are on the record saying that.

Putin had two choices, let the Uke nazi formations launch the spring offensive against the Donbass they had been prepping for and wind up with a NATO/Azov Ukraine on their border..... or intervene.

He had a bad choice and a really bad choice. So he rolled.

I suppose we are lucky that this guy is a “former”

But he’s probably wormed into some think tank getting paid to provide useless or dangerously incompetent “analysis’ being fed to equally useless or incompetent policy making bureaucrats

“We” nothing. You don’t have to sit back you can go over there and do something about it or you can send money to Ukraine’s gofundme page. Leave me out of it.

That’s nonsense. They do have the option of going back to Russia and living there in peace, and that’s what they would do.

I think many of us knew that Putin could not survive defeat in the Ukraine once the conflict began. How would he? Anyone who knows even a little bit about the history of Russia should understand this. He has a self-image and there is a public image for him. Both would be shattered by anything less than victory and his greed (he is insanely wealthy) would make him an easy target for the next guy.

I think many (me included) are still a bit surprised at how inept and ineffective the Russian military was from the beginning. While I never believed them to be the juggernaut that our think-tanks and intel community claimed, there is little doubt that “on paper” they should have won decisively.

There seems to be little common ground for negotiations now because Russia will not concede what they took and Ukraine will not surrender it so how could we not expect an escalation of some kind if there is a stalemate?

This is why the conflict has created the most dangerous time for the world since the Cuban Missile Crisis, but few seem aware of this or comprehend it.

The West needs to tread very carefully, but instead we have neocons running to every camera on capital hill (and in Brussels) fanning the flames.

We convinced them that is not possible with our relentless charge up to their border and constantly swarming around them with aircraft and ships. Then we constantly threatened them in Syria in our support of ISIS/Rebels/FSA etc.

The we falsely accused them of hacking US elections and installing Trump. They knew it was a lie.

You are historically challenged if you think, like much of DC, that if we can deal them a hard conventional blow, they will slink home, apologize and put in a WEF clone leader.
They could sink a carrier tomorrow. If they did, would WE call it a day and withdraw? Nope... neither will they, and nothing in their history suggests they would.

Putin has so many targets to choose from but its more likely that he would target Europe.

So from Biden’s puppet master’s perspective, its no big deal.

I think many (me included) are still a bit surprised at how inept and ineffective the Russian military was from the beginning.

At the start of the war, their military was 10% of it’s 1989 size from the Fulda gap days. NATO and DC lied when they kept saying they were a menace to Europe. They wanted to sell gas and things and have an economy.... and get shown the slightest amount of respect.
We finally showed them that talking to us is meaningless, and will only get you lied to as Merkel confirmed.

So here we are.

Not that it matters much what I believe or think, as I am just a little peon, but this is a joke for anyone calling it an unprovoked war as the US for quite some time done everything possible to provoke this incident. And should it turn into a nuclear conflict I wouldn’t be surprised either as the US along with NATO keeps begging for it.
