NBC News president Noah Oppenheim steps down in network shakeup

Controversial NBC News president Noah Oppenheim will step down from the high-profile role amid a broader shakeup at the news division, the network said Wednesday.

Oppenheim, who was accused by Ronan Farrow of spiking his Harvey Weinstein reporting, will remain in the NBC family, having inked a film and TV production deal with parent NBCUniversal.

NBC News Group Chief Cesar Conde said New York Times deputy managing editor Rebecca Blumenstein will take over much of Oppenheim’s responsibilities, and grab the title of president of editorial for NBC News.

Blumenstein, 56, will oversee editorial, newsgathering, booking and the NBC News bureaus around the world. She will also oversee the “Dateline” and “Meet the Press” franchises, as well as NBC News Studios. The editor, who helped expand The Times’ digital journalism, will report to Conde.

Under a new structure, Libby Leist, the NBC News executive who oversees “Today,” and Janelle Rodriguez, the NBC News executive who supervises the streaming outlet NBC News Now, will also report to Conde. The cable channels MSNBC and CNBC will continue to be led by Rashida Jones and KC Sullivan, respectively.

Conde said that the changes are meant to help NBC News “prepare for a future in which we build on our role as the nation’s most viewed news organization and seize the growth opportunity in front of us, our leadership structure must also evolve and reflect these trends.”

Oppenheim’s departure has been rumored in recent weeks, as his contract, which was rewned in 2019, neared expiration. Oppenheim was elevated to president of NBC News in 2017, after having led the “Today” show as senior vice president since 2015.

News division? NBC hasn’t been real news for decades. Everything is filtered through their democrat party agendas.

Pure, filthy propaganda and outright lies. In a sane world they’d be taken out and shot.

Replacing an Oppenheim with a Blumenstein sounds like 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other.

So it will get more woke and continue to be a leftist organ.

Now that's funny right there.

How diverse is it, when almost all the bigwigs are women? I say this as a woman.

They are all finding their woke specialty niches. CBS Mornings is now a morning show for Blacks. CBS evening news with NorDUH O'Donnell is evening news for radical feminists. etc etc

First question: did he have any involvement in the ‘Trusted News Initiative’ that has been bubbling up in reports here and there?

Check out that guy’s resume.

Very interesting reading.

And not just his previous employment history.

The corporate weasels are fighting over portions of a shrinking pie. Here’s to hoping that blood runs in the gutters.

We’ll see how this portends for partisan Chuck Todd, Meet the Press. He’s been on eggshells lately and should be....he’s an embarrassment.

We always hear how they long for Mr. Straight-Down-the-Middle Tim Russert.

Bullsheeeite.

He was a hack like all the rest, working for that D-NY Senator of last century whose name escapes, who came out of Albany, iirc, which says all you need to know.

Russert wasn’t as blatantly biased as the current crop, but he bent left like all the rest. He disguised his bias better than the others. More likeable. A lovable, suffering Buffalo Bills fan. He introduced Todd as the new analytical whiz kid. And tragically —tragically, I say—dead of a heart attack. Famous for, and credited with the oft-repeated trope: “You’re entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of facts.”

The new lady in charge of MTP will anoint Kristen Welker within 3 months, says me. Casey Hunt got away to CNN+, so she may be enticed to return to NBC.
