GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to secure victory in his long-running quest to become Speaker of the House in the first round Tuesday afternoon, a setback for both McCarthy and House Republicans who have an uphill battle to prove Republican leadership can govern with a narrow majority following last November's midterm elections.
The selection of House Speaker is generally a procedural step in a new majority's work to take control of the lower chamber, but Republicans in the House have had a rough go of it between the midterm elections and Tuesday's vote. GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to lock up enough votes to cruise to easy election as Speaker of the House, and the intervening period saw Republicans going after each other as much, if not more, than Democrats.

Thx. The smugness is disgusting!
I’m open to as to how we minimize getting new fossils...:)
And just shouting MAGA, RINO, etc. doesn’t guarantee we get better representation. Voters need to actually be aware of exactly what the candidate says they will do, how they propose to do it and not just check the box because of the letter beside the name or that they got some endorsement from somebody. Right now that seems to be how many people vote and that is why we have the situation we have now in my opinion.
“I’d rather be stabbed in the chest by someone I know is an enemy, than stabbed in the back by someone who I thought was an ally.”
Absolutely. Deny the Benedict Arnold the satisfaction.
Approximately 100% of the stuff Congress has done over the last 4 years has been wrong and/or harmful, so getting nothing done is a vast improvement.
(While I'm hopeful that they will go on voting for a Speaker for infinity, I'm not at all confident that this will go on for more than a day or so.)
He’s a democrat. Never an ally. Just your typical liar.
I’ll research that statement
Sorry that you dislike my facts ……
Wouldn’t voting for a dim out the sleeper cell RINOs?
I seriously doubt a democrat would cross over and vote for a Republican and any Republican that crossed over to vote for a Democrat would end his career immediately.
Eventually a Republican will be voted in as Speaker, maybe its Kevin McCarthy maybe it won’t.
I like your thinking on this issue. It would out all the Never Trumpers
Until election fraud is eliminated, voting isn’t practical.
I don’t like McCarthy. Never did. When he had a chance to do something, he did nothing. I know Trump endorsed him, but this is Trump playing politics.
Trump isn’t a politician. He is an outsider. They hate him for that.
And they fear him for that.
So Trump should be Trump, not try to pretend to do politics they way THEY do it. THEY are despicable “experts” and will always beat him at that.
He should just be himself.
Absolutely!
“I seriously doubt a democrat would cross over and vote for a Republican “
I could see a couple doing that, e.g., Manchin. They don’t want a GOP, but can live with McCarthy. After all, he’s voted with them often, selling out our side. They might think the devil they know is better than the devil they don’t know. He’d be better for them than someone more conservative.
I disagree. Any fraud legislation will need to be done at the state level. And my vote does count there. I don’t buy the “I’m never voting again” stuff....that’s what the opposition counts on and I’m NOT sitting out any election. At least at the state level I stand a better chance of getting in my Senator/Reps face about their votes.
Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. If I waited for New York State to deal with voter fraud, I'd be dead 20 times over. As it is, I may not even be alive in 2024 to vote for anyone, and living in New York State, my vote doesn't count anyway.
One thing the Democrats have is discipline and punishment for anyone crossing the line, the activists on the left would crucify the person and remove them from all committees and primary them
