Was just about to post this. Suspended in 2020 for “transphobic tweet”

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/246796/kiro-host-dori-monson-dies/

Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM Tacoma/Seattle has announced the death of midday host Dori Monson at the age of 61.

A native of suburban Ballard WA, Monson suffered a cardiac event on Thursday, Dec. 29 and had been hospitalized since the event. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Monson spent his entire broadcasting career in Seattle starting in 1982 with stints at University of Washington’s 90.3 KCMU, King Broadcasting’s 1090 KING and KING-TV before joining KIRO as co-host of the Pat Cashman Show. He would take over the 12-3pm show in 1995 and added duties as pre and post-game host for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks in 2002. Monson had been suspended by the station and the Seahwaks for three weeks in October 2020 for a transphobic tweet.

2020
In a column on the company’s MyNorthwest.com, Monson addressed the situation writing, “My tweet didn’t hit the mark. Instead, it was painful for some of our listeners and many in the Twitter-sphere. For that, like I said on the air the day after the tweet, I apologize. On that Thursday, I said, “I’m sorry. That was not where I was going. That was not my intent on that.” Hours before that show, I shared a more personal apology by phone with a couple I know – a couple who was angry because they have a transgender adult child.

Even with my apology that day, criticism of my tweet started pouring in. They said I was making fun of transgender people, which honest to goodness didn’t even cross my mind then. But people called me transphobic. The Seattle Times called me transphobic. Websites called me transphobic. The truth is, I couldn’t care less if an adult wants to adopt a different gender. At the time, I was commenting on our governor and changing official state documents.”

Wiki:
>>He variously described himself as “right-leaning”, “center right”, and “libertarian”, Monson stated publicly that he voted for Bob Barr in the 2008 presidential election.

tweets:
@legalmindedpunk
No one did more to hurt political discourse and push right-wing nonsense in Seattle over the years than Dori Monson. I’m sorry to those who lost a friend, but he made Seattle a worse place, especially for the most marginalized amongst us.’

@BobbyRead (reply)
What a sick sentiment.

The city of Seattle (or any city) could burn to ashes and many (most?) leftists nationwide would simply take pleasure that some of the dead were conservatives.

He was broadcasting in a liberal city. Liberals were going to hate him. I’ve never heard of him.

Dori is a guy’s name?

I know two people named Dori, and both of them are women.

Consider that he pissed off some rather powerful people like...
Governor Jay Inslee
State Attorney General Bob “Fergie” Ferguson (as Dori called him)
King County Council President Dow Constantine
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell
Several members of the Seattle City Council, including Kshama Sawant, avowed Socialist

I am quite sure they are celebrating tonight. Rotten bastards.

A great voice for those who love justice and holding those in power to account has passed from us.

He has Icelandic heritage, so maybe Dori can be a man’s name.

He was jabbed, said he believed in the jab, his family was jabbed, but he was against the mandates.

I guess a guy can have a girl’s name. I mean there’s at least one boy named Sue, right?

“The name Dori is primarily a gender-neutral name of Hebrew origin that means Gift Or Generation. Diminutive of the female name Dora. Dori is also a Hebrew male name, meaning “my generation.” It is the genitive form of “dor” meaning “generation”. Famous Doris include Dori Previn, poet and songwriter.”

One thing about that: He was jabbed but refused to get any boosters. He was absolutely against kids and ‘healthy young adults” getting the jab, nut was more-or-less for older folks getting it, but said it was a personal medical choice and one should NEVER be forced to get it.

Even a professional talker can’t say much in these circumstances.

I've known two men who died of heart attacks in their 50s (54 and 59), and one who was 43, and one who was 65. This was well before the vaccine. It happens.

The men in their 50s were both obese. The 59-year-old also had diabetes.

The man who was 43 was merely mildly overweight, but he drank a lot.

It's not unusual for a 61-year-old to die of a heart attack, provided he has a family history and/or an unhealthy lifestyle.
